"Godfather" Son Sues Paramount Over Video Game
June 19, 2008

Although we're positive Paramount Pictures won't get "whacked" in the same style as the mobsters in The Godfather movies, the son of the late Godfather author, Mario Puzo, has put a legal hit out on the studio. As the official news wires report (Reuters), Anthony Puzo has filed suit against Paramount for allegedly failing to compensate Puzo's estate over financial profits earned from the hit 2006 Godfather video game.

As Reuters reports, a deal was signed in the early '90s between Mario Puzo and Paramount's parent company, Viacom, that would give the author a portion of revenues generated from The Godfather movies and other properties related to the franchise. From details related of the suit, Anthony Puzo is seeking $1 million in compensation.

Although Puzo sold the film rights to Paramount in the early 1970s, following the 1999 passing of Mario Puzo, the author's estate was handed over to his children.
