Looking Back at Strategy with Kelly Czarnecki of Survivor Gabon
By Reg Seeton

While watching last week's episode of Survivor Gabon, it was tough to predict whose torch would be extinguished. Throughout the game, much of the show's focus centered on the newly formed Fang tribe and their feeble attempts to work together as a team. After losing both the reward and immunity challenges, Fang's spirits were crushed, with former Olympian Crystal breaking down in tears in front of her fellow tribe mates.

Between the challenges Ace and Matty formed a new alliance, which eventually pitted their own individual allies against each other, as Sugar, Crystal, Ace, and Kelly became candidates to have their torches extinguished at tribal council. With Sugar back in possession of her immunity idol, which she handed over to Ace for a few days, that left three Fang members to choose from.

When all of the votes were counted, 22 year old fashion student from Buffalo Grove, Illinois, Kelly Czarnecki, became the sixth person to be voted out of Survivor Gabon.

The morning after Kelly's ejection from the game, we managed to get a few minutes with the ex-Survivor to find out what went wrong and what she believes is Ace's weakness.

THE DEADBOLT: How could you have played things differently with Jacquie that might have kept you in the game?

KELLY CZARNECKI: I probably could have - You know, I was trying to further myself and I already knew Jacquie was going. So I didn't really want to do anything with Jacquie, but I could have, maybe, went on her side and aligned with somebody else. But that's not something I wanted to do in the game. But if I were to do something with Jacquie I would have done that.

THE DEADBOLT: Did you know each day when waking up that Crystal was going to be a problem for you?

KELLY: No. Crystal's an actress, and you know what? In the game she was different, but she's a tough girl. You know, she's playing for a million bucks. Sometimes it was hard getting along with her because she can't reason and she has to stick with one side. So that was kind of difficult.

THE DEADBOLT: So what do you think Ace's weakness is?

KELLY: His positiveness, and he only thinks for himself. I mean, in this game you kind of have to think for yourself. But I think his weakness is being a nice person, like looking at the better things of people. Yeah, definitely, it's being a nice person, kind of like be genuine but I don't think he has that in him.

THE DEADBOLT: Really? Even though everybody thinks he's evil?

KELLY: Everybody thinks he's evil. But you know what? That's Ace's side of the game.

THE DEADBOLT: Did you have a strategy had you have made it to the merge?

KELLY: Did I have a strategy for the merge? Yeah. I was going to stick with Crystal, Kenny, and Matty - I wasn't going to go to old Kota members - and just stick with them throughout the whole thing. But I mean things could have changed. I could have had a million ideas.
