10 Super Hero Trailers of the '70s and '80s
by Larson Hill
There was a time when
people laughed at the thought of super heroes
making their way to the big screen. It wasn't
too long ago when comic book geeks thought an
X-Men or Spider-Man movie was impossible. Still,
throughout the cinematic ages, super heroes
and comic book heroines found their way from
the panels into theaters despite the preconceived
stereotype that plagued some of the comic industry's
most well known characters. Iron Man? Forget
it. Tony Stark was nothing more than wishful
thinking.
Although comic book geeks have been basking in their day in the sun in recent years with the explosion of super hero movies, thanks largely to the advances in technology, directors like Richard Donner, Tim Burton, Wes Craven, Richard Fleisher, and Paul Verhoeven were giving big screen life to such super heroes as Superman, Batman, Swamp Thing, Red Sonja, and RoboCop in the 1970s and '80s. At the same time, some heroes like Doc Savage and Dr. Strange were getting the movie treatment on the small screen.
No one can say that super heroes were dead in the '70s and '80s, but there's no way to skirt the obvious. Some super hero movies were good, some were bad, and others downright unforgettable while a select few have stood the test of time.
Here's a look at "10 Super Hero Trailers of the '70s and '80s" that will undoubtedly make you appreciate today's big screen super heroes even more.
