Patrick Swayze Going Through Hell But Determined to 'Keep Going'
by Larson Hill

As Patrick Swayze gets set to step into the shoes of a veteran undercover FBI agent in the upcoming A&E series The Beast, the 56 year old Swayze recently opened up to Barbara Walters about his year long battle with pancreatic cancer. Reuters reports that in an interview with Walters that will air this Wednesday, Swayze revealed his cancer fight has been tough, stating how he was going through hell while being scared and angry about his fight with one of the world's most challenging diseases to overcome. Swayze confirmed to Walters, "You can bet I'm going through hell," yet the veteran actor of Ghost and Dirty Dancing is determined to push forward through the adversity.

A year ago in January 2008, Patrick Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which sparked a series of tabloid rumors that suggested he was near death's door. As a result, Swayze issued a statement later in the year indicating that he was handling the disease and looking forward to working on The Beast. While in chemotherapy, Swayze began filming The Beast but didn't take pain medication, which he revealed was a decision based on wanting to keep his thoughts and mental state intact.

As for his outlook on the future and his battle with cancer, Swayze told Walters that he refuses to live in the shadow of the disease and is determined to fight on, "What winning is to me, is not giving up, is no matter what's thrown at me, I can take it. And I can keep going."

The Beast premieres January 15 on A&E.
