Tron Transports Actor Garrett Hedlund Into Sequel
By Larson Hill
In a short but sweet announcement in the trades, news has come down the cinematic pike that actor Garrett Hedlund has been tapped to star in the long awaited sequel to Tron. Word of Hedlund's Tron casting via Variety comes fresh on the heels of recent confirmation that Olivia Wilde of House and actress Beau Garrett of Made of Honor and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer have also joined the production.
Garrett, who? Although Hedlund's name might not ring a bell in the minds of many, some fans have seen Garrett already as Lindsay Lohan's love interest in Georgia Rule, the young farmboy in the 2006 dragon pic Eragon, one of the gun-toting siblings in director John Singleton's Four Brothers, his role as footballer Don Billingsley in the movie version of Friday Night Lights, and his role in Wolfgang Petersen epic 2004 film Troy
With first time director Joseph Kosinski at the helm, original Tron director Steven Lisberger back as producer, and actor Jeff Bridges also returning for a second Tron story, the casting is almost complete. Although the Tron sequel storyline is being kept under wraps, the following details have appeared online: "After being transported into the surreal landscape of a mainframe computer to destroy an intruder (Tron), a programmer finds himself allied with the leader of a rebellion against a corrupt cyber-entity."
