Two Minutes with Bones Psychologist John Francis Daley
by Troy Rogers
It's no surprise that when Angel left the airwaves a few years ago that actor David Boreanaz would find a network home and rekindle his relationship with fans. Now that Fox's investigative drama is in its fourth season, with Boreanaz still on the job with Emily Deschanel, more cast members are using their expertise to help get to the bottom of forensic mysteries within various cases.
On February 5, Bones sees the return of Grave Digger who calls Brennan to let the team know Booth has only 24 hours to live. From there, Brennan seeks out the help of John Francis Daley in the role of Dr. Lance Sweets for a psychological assessment on Grave Digger.
With Emily Dashcanel's Bones Brennan on the hunt for Grave Digger, we tracked down actor John Francis Daley on a recent conference call where we got just a couple brief minutes to inquire about his current role and what he likes about playing Sweets.
THE DEADBOLT: Can you give me Sweets’ psychological assessment of the Grave Digger?
JOHN FRANCIS DALEY: I don’t want to give too much away, but I know the Grave Digger is a very tough nut to crack.
THE DEADBOLT: There’s a good comedic vibe between Sweets, Booth and Brennan. In addition to that, what do you like about the character?
DALEY: Aside from that vibe where he’s constantly trying to get through to these people that don’t seem to take him very seriously, he is someone that is very, very stubborn and determined to be proven right even if he’s wrong. And that makes it funny because you see that this character is really willing to do anything to get respect. And usually when someone is willing to do anything for respect, they lose all respect to begin with.
THE DEADBOLT: So if you’re willing to do anything for respect, can we expect to see a few upcoming episodes where Sweets gets his eyebrows burned off?
DALEY: A la Kitchen Confidential, you never know. With this show, you never know…
