Twilight Weekly Wrap: More Dakota, Drew, Eclipse and New Moon
by Larson Hill

With only a couple of weeks before production begins on the Stephenie Meyer based Twilight sequel New Moon on March 23 in Vancouver, the buzz for both the New Moon and Eclipse has been picking up steam by the day. This week's Twilight Wrap isn't much different from last week's round up of news related to New Moon and Eclipse. However, some of that very "more of the same" Twilight news has become official while some reports associated with Eclipse are slightly different, with additional bits and pieces added to the Twilight mix to make up a new story. But the Stephenie Meyer Twilight saga is the hottest topic going on the web, so fans should be happy about all of the latest breaking buzz. Yet, with Summit Entertainment tight-lipped on all things Twilight, nothing is ever official until you hear it straight from the vampire's mouth.

Here's the latest Twilight Weekly Wrap on the activity surrounding New Moon and Eclipse.

Dakota Fanning New Moon Casting is Official

After weeks of New Moon speculation, reports broke last weekend that indicated the New Moon casting of Dakota Fanning was announced early to subscribers of TwilighttheMovie.com. As a new week began, however, Summit Entertainment jumped back into the official Twilight mix and confirmed that Fanning was indeed cast as Volturi vampire Jane in New Moon. As we reported in our earlier Fanning New Moon casting, Dakota recently shared her thoughts about how a darker role in New Moon would alter the cute image that we've come to recognize from the 15-year old actress. "Yes, but I can be sweet little Dakota Fanning here, and then I can be something different in the movies. And that’s what I love."

Drew Barrymore on the Short List to Direct Eclipse

After previously reporting on the possibility of Drew Barrymore directing the third big screen adaptation in the Twilight series, Eclipse, this week Barrymore confirmed in a recent interview that she is indeed on the short-list as one of the possible directors to helm Eclipse after the Twilight sequel New Moon wraps production in Vancouver. Drew also revealed that’s she's excited about the Eclipse consideration and the possibility to work within the Twilight franchise since she's now a director. Although the directing gig on New Moon would be a high profile project on her young helming resume, Barrymore, 34, was also quick to point out that the Stephenie Meyer based adaptation will eventually find the right director even if it isn't her.

Paul Weitz Directing Eclipse?

Although Drew Barrymore recently confirmed that she is on the short list to direct the third Twilight film, Eclipse, word is also circulating that Paul Weitz, bother of New Moon director Chris Weitz, may be in the running to direct Eclipse. Amid the Barrymore buzz, Twilighters.org reports that the Drew Barrymore rumors are false and that Paul Weitz will be stepping in to direct Eclipse given the tight post-production deadlines on the Twilight sequel New Moon.

Interesting. So, if Paul Weitz IS directing Eclipse, why is Drew Barrymore confirming to anyone that she's on the short list to direct Eclipse? On the flip side of it, though, if Paul Weitz IS actually directing Eclipse and Drew already knows that she simply made the final short-list, it’s still good PR for your young directing career to even be associated with New Moon and the Twilight franchise. At this stage, who knows? The only constant in the latest Twilight rumor saga is that Summit Entertainment hasn't confirmed anything.

Kellan Lutz Sounds Off on New Moon Rumors

In a recent interview with MTV, New Moon actor Kellen Lutz shared his thoughts on the casting rumors circulating around the Twilight sequel New Moon before jetting off to Vancouver to begin rehearsals. In the interview, Lutz, who plays vampire Emmett Cullen, revealed that he believes the New Moon casting rumors surrounding actresses AnnaLyne McCord and Vanessa Hudgens are simply more on the side of just that ... rumor. Interestingly, Kellen also shed more light on the McCord rumor from the standpoint that it appears director Chris Weitz could be eyeing someone local in Vancouver to fill the role of Heidi. What that translates to is that New Moon would save money by casting a middle to low tier actor.

However, since Lutz gave MTV the interview just prior to the weekend and news has already broke that AnnaLynne McCord apparently won't be appearing in New Moon, something seems to be a bit off. Despite what Lutz told MTV, Kellan also told the outlet that he wouldn't have any scenes with her in New Moon anyway. Lutz also told MTV that Chris Weitz and casting director Joseph Middleton are committed to populating the film with Native American actors to serve as his character's friends.

Taylor Lautner, Nikki Reed and Kristen Stewart Walk Streets of Vancouver

On Sunday, March 8, New Moon man Jacob Black, Taylor Lautner, was spotted walking down the street with female New Moon stars Nikki Reed and Kristen Stewart, as Just Jared reports. Interestingly enough, since Robson Street and the downtown core in Vancouver is almost completely "paparazzi free" and sane unlike the photo-crazed Robertson Boulevard in Los Angeles, someone got a cool shot of Lautner and the New Moon girls. The funny thing is, since Vancouver isn't celeb crazy, with a chill vibe about fame with the many productions in town, and stars can walk down the street without running for their lives like The Beatles in "Help," some Twilight actors might have a hard time trying to get someone to notice them.

ok, i thikn dakotas gona b a great jane!!! and i dont think drew barrymore would b a good director. i just dont think she has the tlent tht any of the books/movies deserve. and i think...no, i know, that vanessa hudgens would totally ruin leah. Twilight deserves more than a stupid, slutty, preppy disney bitch to play someone as deep and complex as leah. And i still dont know of anyone who actually thinks she would b good!!! there's petitions and stuff everywhere online tht says they dont want her and theresl ike more than a million signatures on each one. but im glad tht theyre keeping ht original cast n im thrilled tht taylor's staying as jake! i dodnt really get y there was confusion on tht, hes perfect 4 jake!!!

Jane's character is very misleading she should look just as beautiful and innocent as an angel...(much like Dakota does) One of the reasons Jane is such a great character is because she is so misleading. She is this fragile looking little thing and under she hold absolute unrelenting evil. I think that Dakota is a very capable actress...I think she will be great playing the part!
