Twilight Reader Wrap: Robert Pattinson vs Taylor Lautner by Larson Hill
One
thing I've come to learn after spending so much
time with the Twilight Saga over the years, novels
and movies, is how passionate Twilight fans are
about the many layers and elements of the series.
In fact, in many ways it's an extension of what
I love about Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and
Breaking Dawn. Although those who don't connect
with the Twilight Saga may roll their eyes at
such a rabid, emotional and passionate fan base,
the diversity within various online discussions
related to Twilight has been as equally intriguing,
if not more than online talk generated by previous
cinematic franchises. From fans expressing their
love for the Twilight characters, Edward Cullen,
Bella Swan, and Jacob Black and actors Robert
Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner
to the deep emotions evoked by the complexities
of the Twilight Saga storylines, fan conviction
surrounding Twilight runs as deep as the 2008
Election. It's like playing Twilight politics
within a Twilight Saga democracy with actors Robert
Pattinson and Taylor Lautner campaigning to win
the presidency of Kristen Stewart's love.
Although I won't go as far as saying that the varied Twilight feelings for New Moon stars Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are as deeply convicted as the divisive public sentiment for Barack Obama and John McCain during the 2008 race for the White House, Twilight has spawned a unique division within its fan base between Team Edward and Team Jacob, which also translates to "Team Robert" and "Team Taylor". What Twilight actor wears red and who favors blue? I don't want to know. That's way too much drama for me. I'll leave it up to you to determine exactly which colors correspond to the vampire and werewolf parties in real life.
But with each Twilight team comes legions of loyal fans who are just as passionate, possibly even more, about the actors as the Twilight Saga books and movies. Although there are Twilight and New Moon fans who haven't picked sides and fall somewhere in the middle, a lot of Twilighters either love Robert Pattinson or Taylor with no middle ground at all. It's just the way the Twilight cookie crumbles.
So with New Moon off to begin shooting in Italy, how do fans feel about Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner as the Twilight sequel moves forward to its November release? Here's a look at how some of the Twilight readers at TheDeadbolt have expressed their passion for both Pattinson and Lautner while also sharing their excitement for the release of New Moon and The Twilight Saga at large:

isn't that easy. "Im a HUGE Twilight fan; read
the whole saga like 10 times and I own the soundtrack
and the movie, but I just cant choose a team.
I love Jacob and Edward, they're both awsome
and, but of course, TOTALLY HOT!!!! I dont see
how people can choose. I just simply never could
choose Ed or Jake."
In the same piece, Deadbolt reader, Lupe, casts a vote for Taylor Lautner, saying, "There's is something there that shines and you feel like Taylor was truly made to play Jacob Black, and I know he will be great in New Moon, and I can't wait until New Moon comes out in November to see what a great job everybody did in the movie, especially Taylor."
For a recent reader named Lauren from Arlington,
Texas, who responded to one New Moon fan's love
for actor Robert Pattinson, it's more about
the Twilight basics of economics in terms of
New Moon supply and demand for both actors.
"Obviously, a lot of people care to hear what
Taylor Lautner says," says Lauren. "Otherwise,
an interview with him wouldn't have been in
demand and BlogTalkRadio [and people] wouldn't
have bothered with it. Besides, Robert needs
a break from fangirls ... It's time he steps
away from answering ridiculous questions like,
'Will you bite me?'"
In one of our earlier Twilight reader oriented pieces, Mirinda of Chicago told us that she sees a bright future for Taylor Lautner and that all Twilight fans are watching two of their favorite actors make the leap to adulthood. "Taylor Lautner is in the process of going from a boy to a man. We haven't even seen the best of him as an actor," writes Miranda. "You can see it with Robert, too, but Taylor is going to bring so much more to New Moon than people realize. I can't wait to see him as the bigger, hotter Jacob! I think a lot of us fans are in for a big surprise."

and Taylor Lautner, we all know New Moon lines
have already been drawn, with huge Twilight
Saga armies of fans in both camps. For a Deadbolt
reader named Chelsea, it's all about Robert
Pattinson and her confidence in his acting growth
as we near New Moon, "I think it's gonna be
fantastic and I'm very sure Rob's gonna pull
it off smoothly. I'm a huge fan of his, and
I've seen most of his work, he's an excellent,
under-rated actor, and I cannot wait to see
what he's gonna do with Edward in New Moon.
He portrayed Edward perfectly in Twilight, as
the tortured monster in love with a fragile
human. Twilight wouldn't be half of what it
is today without Rob." In fact it was the Twilight
vamp himself who made the film all the more
special, as Chelsea elaborates. "Honestly speaking,
Rob made me love Edward even more than I already
did, and vice-versa. In my opinion, there is
only one Edward, and that's Rob. In being a
big fan, I've come to notice that both Edward
and Rob are very similar in many ways."
Interestingly, reader che'lin from Kuala Lumpur, shares the exact sentiment, revealing in the same talkback, "My only intention to watch New Moon is to watch my gorgeous Robert Pattinson as the perfect Edward Cullen." After the Twilight Saga, there's a Robert ripple
effect that strikes a Twilight nerve with older
fans of the Stephenie Meyer series. At the same
time, it's also the love for the New Moon actors
that has a ripple effect on their own Twilight
investment. As our reader, Sarita, explained,
she can't get enough of Robert or The Twilight
Saga. "Gosh, I am 39 and was getting worried
about my sanity having a crush on Edward, LOL!
Now I see lots of other people do, too," admits
Sarita. "This series is addictive indeed. I
would see all these Twilight references everywhere
and I said, 'So what's the big deal?'
In looking for an answer to the "much ado about The Twilight Saga", Sarita found it much deeper in the complete saga. "Then I saw the movie and read two of the four books. I actually read New Moon in a day and a half! I haven't spent that many hours glued to a book in years! I just got Eclipse and I am trying (really hard) to read it slower. I can't wait for the movie to come out and I sure hope they take it all the way to Breaking Dawn. I read the Midnight Sun excerpt on Stephenie's website and I was salivating for more. I sure hope Stephenie will continue writing the stories from Edward's perspective."

I absolutely love jake/taylor! When I read twilight I didn't think of Jacob as anything but a puzzle peice to help Bella find out that Edward was a Vampire. Twilight was my least favorite book of all four. Once I read new moon I absolutely hated Edward for leaving Bellla, and I fell in love with Jake.
I also love Taylor Lautner. I think that he is absolutely HOT! I was expecting Edward to be more betterlooking, because of how the book described him, but Taylor is just the perfect image of a guy that any girl would swoon for.

Jacob is too selfish, immature and completely self-obsessed to be even remotely sexy. His world revolves around himself and just because in the here and now he wants Bella, even though he knows that he could imprint someone else at anytime (the fact that he's seen for himself what happened between Emily, Leah and Sam and yet it still doesn't have any affect on his selfish wants, further proves the point ) he is willing to manipulate Bella to try and achieve HIS own wants. Jacob knows that Bella loves Edward and even though Bella has told him that Edward is the most amazing person she has ever known, that is not enough for Jacob. But surely Jacob SHOULD want what makes Bella happy ? But he doesn't. Even in Breaking Dawn, he wants to kill Renesmee because HE'S upset, because HE'S lost Bella ( or so he thinks ) and because it would make HIM feel better. Would Bella really want Jacob doing that ? Completely selfish and self-absorbed like I said. Jacob only redeems himself somewhat during Breaking Dawn because he imprints Renesmee, but then he had no control over that and it would be interesting to wonder what would have happened had Jacob been destined to love/imprint elsewhere and whether his true colours would be unveiled yet again. Therefore, Jacob's positive portrayal later in Breaking Dawn could merely be seen as being 'beyond his control', as opposed to something that he would have done regardless due to his own strength of character.
Edward is truly the better person for Bella and a better person in general. Jacob's 'sense of humour' which is often spoken of has a really bitter, nasty edge to it at times, which is both unbecoming and shallow. Whilst Bella preceived Jacob as her 'sun', we saw time and time again how she was willing to over-look Jacob's nasty 'un' sun-like tendancies because she 'needed' him in her life and so whilst Jacob was constantly forgiven by Bella, that doesn't mean that he does no wrong and is 'harmless' in his bitterness and hatred, it's just that he's lucky that Bella forgives him and in some ways this may redeem him in the reader's eyes somewhat.
At the end of the day, Rob is the perfect Edward and would win hands down in any which way you all wanted to decide the competition.

Bottom line is Edward would put Bella's needs before his own and there is no way in hell Jacob would and could do that.

Etheir that jacob is selfish or not, he's way better than Edward because even tough Bella rejected him, he was still here for her and he protected her, plus if it warent for him there would be no Bella in Eclipse because he saved Bella when she Cliff-dive.Maybe what you say about Jacob is true but you actually dont really know how he felt when he was behaving that way, eg: When bella first went to schol in Forks, the way she said Edward behaved with her wasnt pleasant at all and that was her point of view, but lets wait and see when " Midnight Sun " comes out if Edward really intended to behave that way with Bellla. If you think about about it, Edward bahaved that way and kept his distance with her so he doesnt hurt her, so what proves that Jacob is behaving the way is so he doesnt hurt Bella? I like Jacob anyways because in Twilight Bella wasnt paying much attention to him but when Edward left her, he accepted her and tried to get her out of her depression byt hanging out with her more than his own best friends { Quil and Embry.} When he was going trough his transformation and understood well what he was becoming, he was still there for her and he even accepted the fact that Bella wanted to go save Edward, Is that being selfish? Ok, maybe he didnt like it but he still dealt with it. Maybe Stephanie Meyer should write another book but with Jacob as the main character, so we all get this cleared up and understand well how each character felt about the whole thing before voting for a Twilight team. I dont have a team but if you ask me, i like Taylor way better than Robert because Taylor is more younger and hotter. But team Werewolf or Team Vampire, i dont have a preferance because even taught they're monster { well kinda } they were and are humans beings.
