Boyzone Singer Stephen Gately Dies in Spain

Former Boyzone singer, Stephen Gately, died on the Spanish Island of Mallorca on Saturday of undetermined causes. Stephen Gately, 33, former singer of Irish boy band Boyzone with Ronan Keating, was vacationing in Spain on Mallorca with partner Andrew Cowles at the time of his death who Gately wed in 2006 after Cowles and Gately committed to each other in a Las Vegas ceremony in 2003. In a statement regarding the death of Stephen Gately on the Boyzone website, the group revealed details of Gately's death weren't yet known.
Boyzone manager Louis Walsh gave a statement over the death of Stephen Gately, saying, "We're all absolutely devastated. I'm in complete shock. I was only with him on Monday at an awards ceremony. We don't know much about what's happened yet."
From 1993 to 2003, Stephen Gately and Ronan Keating of Boyzone had six #1 hits in the U.K before disbanding in 2000 only to reunite in 2008. After Boyzone, Stephen Gately went on to appear in a variety of stage productions, television series, and other musical projects. After Stephen Gately appeared in the 2007 Dr. Who audio play, Horror of Glam Rock, 2008 saw Gately appear in the independent horror film, Credo.
