Will Muse be the Twilight Saga Band?
by Larson Hill

After the recent Twilight announcement that British rockers, Muse, landed a second Twilight Saga spot on the New Moon soundtrack, now comes word that Muse could wind up on the Twilight Saga Eclipse soundtrack. According to Muse drummer Dominic Howard in a recent interview with MTV, Muse might do something for Eclipse said Howard following thoughts about the band's increased exposure due to the Twilight Saga. As well, Muse skins-man Howard elaborated that the band is also somewhat close to Eclipse director David Slade who, as Dominic Howard revealed, "directed about three or four of our videos for the second album, and he's a really great video director."

Although the possibility of Muse on the Twilight Saga Eclipse soundtrack is nothing more than speculation at this point, Muse is the only Twilight Saga band to appear on both the Twilight and New Moon soundtracks. Twilight Saga author Stephenie Meyer loves Muse and Muse has worked with Eclipse director David Slade. Could Muse appear on the third Twilight Saga soundtrack? Let's put it this way, Muse has a better shot for Eclipse than any other band at this point. And since there's a unique Twilight Saga appeal of one band appearing on all soundtracks, it wouldn't come as a shocker if Muse did land on the Eclipse soundtrack. If you look at the Twilight Saga soundtrack pieces for Muse, they all organically fit together.

The interesting question about this is how Muse may be affected by potentially becoming the Twilight Saga band. I mean, the word is still out on which Twilight Saga actor will come out of the franchise pegged as "the Twilight guy" or "Twilight gal". Given the frenzied attention surrounding Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, in recent weeks we've seen Twilight related interview quotes that indicate both Pattinson and Stewart don't want to be defined by the Twilight Saga. That's not to say there's anything wrong with that, both acting and music are businesses and careers. Being the Twilight guy, gal, or band is certainly a fast track to early retirement on your own island. Interestingly though, as stated in the Dominic Howard interview with MTV, the guys of Muse are treating the Twilight Saga as a side project, which may be a key factor in Muse not being defined by the Twilight Saga.

With five albums, Muse wasn't hard up for fans prior to the Twilight Saga and certainly won't be coming out of - what one could assume on this track - potentially the Breaking Dawn soundtrack. If Muse goes all the way with the Twilight Saga soundtracks, will they be known as the "Twilight band"? You bet Muse will be pegged as the Twilight Saga band. For how long though, will be up to Muse. But like Muse drummer Dominic Howard revealed, the Twilight Saga is a side project. The guys of Muse didn't need Twilight or New Moon to launch their careers.

If you look at the Twilight Saga acting trio of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, there is a chance the career of one could be defined by the Twilight Saga. Between the music and acting sides of Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, when the Twilight Saga is complete, Muse may very well have an easier time of maintaining the same identity prior to the Twilight franchise than the actors who will obviously be working hard to prove they're not that Twilight guy or Twilight gal. As for Muse possibly becoming the Twilight Saga band, it may simply be one high point in their career if they continue to make music well into the future. Only Twilight Saga time will tell.

Subject: I never heard of Muse till Twilight

I have become a fan of Muse due to the songs from the Twilight Saga - never had heard of then till the movies came out. Love the music and have become a big fan. All good! And I hope they take on the Clash of the Titians - that would be awesome!!

Subject: No, they will NOT be the "Twilight Saga Band"

Because Muse was already quite popular WAY before Twilight, in fact the only country they aren't quite as well known in is America, and yes being involved in Twilight is slowly shifting that, but I believe that continuously allowing their music to be used in Twilight will not hurt them one bit. Although some hardcore Muse fans may seethe at the idea of such a cool band being involved with some emo-sissy vampire love story geared towards teenage girls, they fail to realize that the exposure will gain them more fans, more of a following who will buy their records and see them live, and thus make them even more successful. Where's the harm in that? Besides, Muse don't plan on being associated solely with Twilight, they've also expressed their desire to make a song for a James Bond film. It's all clever marketing, what Muse is doing is expanding their fanbase without selling out, per se. Instead of changing their music to make it more mainstream and thus more palatable for the masses, they're introducing the audience to THEIR brand of music through popular film franchises. They're conquering the world without compromising themselves. Unheard of, especially these days, eh?
