The Post Twilight Acting Future of Robert Pattinson by Larson Hill
Given the increasing Twilight buzz surrounding New Moon star Robert Pattinson, it should come as no surprise to any Twilight Saga fan of Pattinson that the Twilight lead doesn't know how long he wants to be an actor. In a recent Twilight Pattinson interview with Seventeen Magazine (via MTV), that's exactly what Robert Pattinson revealed, stating, "I don't even know if I want to be an actor that long." Also, in relation to future movies beyond Twilight, New Moon, and the Twilight Saga in general, Pattinson admitted, "... if I start doing lame work, I'm not going to stick around and do it!" Interestingly, Robert Pattinson also revealed in the Twilight and New Moon related interview that he felt uncertain about his image from Twilight and that also being on the Twilight soundtrack at the same time made him looked ridiculous.
Although it's no surprise that Robert Pattinson wouldn't want to act and do
lame work, does he mean his own acting talent
or appearing in lame projects? Is Robert Pattinson
growing weary of the Twilight Saga attention?
Does the New Moon lead feel he's beginning to
do lame work given his feelings about looking
ridiculous? Or is Pattinson simply referring
to if his acting game slips and he doesn't feel
he's able to do good work? Who knows the real
answer but Robert Pattinson himself? The questions
certainly tap into a few things we've been wondering
about not only Pattinson, but also Twilight
Saga stars such as Kristen Stewart and Taylor
Lautner.
A while back we took a look at two Twilight Saga related questions in the features Will the Twilight Saga Stars Get Twilight Typecast?
and Can New Moon and the Twilight Saga Endure the Hype?. Although the above Twilight questions surrounding the acting future of Robert Pattinson are hard to answer, fans already know the Twilight Saga stars are, as the headlines say, feeling the heavy weight of their own popularity. But no matter how Robert Pattinson feels about his acting future, there are still two more Twilight Saga movies to come down the Twilight pike in Eclipse and Breaking Dawn over the next two years.
Given the New Moon star's recent Seventeen quotes, it's interesting to wonder how Robert Pattinson will feel with two more years of Twilight Saga hype left in the tank. Both the Twilight typecasting issue and the sustainability of the Twilight Saga hype are still up in the air. If the heavy Twilight attention is at the root of how Robert Pattinson feels about his acting future, can you really blame him for not knowing how long he wants to be an actor? If the Twilight Saga hype continues in the same frenzied manner, who wouldn't want to at least take a break to think about the future?
Being so young and achieving the highest level of fame possible for a movie star may present a slew of new challenges in where Pattinson can go as an actor. Will the future projects of Robert Pattinson be as popular as Twilight? Will his career unfold in the same bankable box-office way as Tom Cruise or Will Smith? There's no way to tell how the acting future of Robert Pattinson pans out until the Twilight Saga is complete. Who knows, he may become an even bigger star he if stays in the game.

I hope the day never comes when he is not being himself at interviews. His interview in GQ was very real and very entertaining. It would be very sad if he quits acting. I really think that with a little more time he will settle down and realise that he CAN handle the fans/media craze of Twilight. His confidence in himself will continue to build up as he matures as an actor and indeed as a young man and he will go on to do fabulous work! Trust your instincts, nothing else! Just one day at a time Rob, hang in there....

Having a teenage doughter I got more involved in the whole Twilight - Robert Pattison thing more than any sane person of my age should be. It paines me to watch such a great young guy turning into some king of trophy. The good thing is, that most teenage girls grow up fast - they fall in love with nice (spotty) local boy or move onto another star - so there is no worry that these girls will follow Robert in another year or so! My doughter has already moved onto Taylor (Jacob Black) - I presume it's in preparation for New Moon. So, if Robert is enjoying the challenge of acting and wants to stay to explore his own acting dephts - he really should not worry about the current frenzy. I personally think he should stick with music - that way he can be more himself.
Nobody ever suggested that Sean Connery is good only at being James Bond, so why should Robert Pattison get stuck with being Edward Cullen?
PS: I have read the whole Twilight saga and now moved onto The Host by Staphanie Meyer - the woman has got a great talent - hope she writes more books soon.

Yep, I think he is fed up with Edward Cullen! Rob just want to be himself! The question is - is it possible? If I were Rob I would finish Twilight Saga series, take a break and think carefully what to do next.
Rob, forget about fans, forget about Edward Cullen - that's just a job!
By the way - you are doing good job so far. Just don't let the popularity pressure to overwhelm you...

I think Robert is endearing in his interviews. I can't imagine how it feels to be catapulted into super stardom and have to deal with the gazillion crazy fans of the Twightlight series. It has to be tough. It's too bad that he can't see what everyone else sees - his performace as Edward is fantastic. He took a role that so many girls have fallen in love with and he didn't disappoint - he gave the character life. I am very much looking forward to seeing him in the rest of the movies and whatever else he pursues once it is over.

He gave me the best portrayal of Edward seriously I can not see anypne playing him he is so perfect but people need to back of give him some space he should take a break , go into hiding whatever he ca so that he can come back to us and blow us away again.

I totally agree with you, his performance of Edward is fantastic. He totally brought the character to life with depth and heart. Other actors could have played him but Twilight would not be the phenom it is -- it would have just been another action movie and nothing more. I saw him in The Haunted Airman and he is wonderful in it but it was not the same as his characterization of Edward Cullen. The man has talents beyond Twilight. If he every gets tired of acting... then play music and I will be in line for that CD to drop ...

I think Rob will continue acting and I also think he will be in many movies. I believe if the media would give these kids in the Twilight Series a semblance of living a normal life they would all do great. I think Summit has dropped the ball big time in protecting these kids and making sure they get the privacy they deserve...seems Summit is only interested in making loads of money and they know Rob, Kirsten and Taylor are going to keep them rolling in dough and they should take better care of them.
As for complaining I think they have all been gracious dealing with the nonsense they have been through none of us would put up with it...they were hired to play in a series who knew it was going to be the top movie and saga of all time...we need to give them some time to be themselves.

I completely disagree about your dissenting view of Summit- they have done everything to protect everyone on the set of the movies while filming. They have had to hire extra security as well as have the actors. OF COURSE their bottom line is to make money- they run a business! What business doesn't want to make money!? But to suggest they are doing it at the expense of the actors is IMO truly wrong.
I think, in particular, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have done an exceptional job at staying private. It may take some extra effort and that would suck, but they seem to be handling it well.
I would totally put up with the nonsense they are if I knew I was creating 'magic' for hundreds of thousands- that's what acting is. You act to make the people who love the character believe you. I am quite sure these two specifically know who they are and what they are dealing with- as hard they were slammed into it.
No one needs to give anyone time for anything. It all balances out one way or another. I find they are all doing very well in handling their privacy as well as their publicity nicely. I'm not saying it is easy or simple but they signed on to act for a reason and you can't tell me it was for the art at this level.

i have seen a lot of potential as an actor in robert when i first saw him in "harry potter and the goblet of fire" as cedric diggory. it's clear that he has a lot of raw talent and he has the potential to be another great actor, not just a celebrity famous for something so fleeting as the "twilight" franchise. i believe he enjoys his work and he is quite good at what he does, but i'm sure he would like to be known for things in the distant future that are more true to him and what he's interested in. i mean, anyone who's dedicated to the art of acting and not just the pay checks would want to be. i bet that it's frustrating being seen as a teen idol when you obviously were trying to stray away from that route. though the series has garnered him a lot of fame and recognition, it wouldn't surprise me if robert quit acting if he isn't offered more mature and challenging roles. i love him as an actor and he seems like a very humble, intelligent guy. so i don't want to see him stick to crappy, mediocre movies simply because that's what he's so famous for now. i hope he gets a chance to amaze everyone someday due to his talent, not just his physical appearance.

Alright,if he is just gonna cry about all this attention he is getting, the he should probably just leave the acting business because honestly I'm tired of hearing about how he is soooooo miserable and tired of the fans. He wanted to be an actor and this is what comes with the damn job. So he should probably just get over it, or just stop everything all together.
Its not that I hate him or anything, I am actually a huge fan of his...when he isnt being such a jerk.
So if he is just going to stick it out and keep acting, he should just get the heck over all the attention.

Daryl, comments like yours really annoy me because you really have to look at the big picture here. Rob went to an audition after practically giving up acting (in his words "an unemployable actor"). I'm sure he was very excited to get the PART. Did he expect that his whole life would be turned upside down, that every movement he makes would be put under a microscope, that he would not be able to go out to meet friends without Paparazzi following him, that his private life would be continually scrutinized, that he would have to have a bodyguard by his side to protect him from over zealous fans? I don't think so! He gets more attention than Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt! Give him a break if he expresses some misery about his life as it is -- he did NOT sign up for what it has become and had no idea or I'm sure he would have thought twice about taking "the job". It makes me mad and sad because he is so charming and real, but damage has been done and I fear will never see him the way he was in early interviews again.
