Fox Wipes Dollhouse Memory from Primetime Line-Up
by Nadya Valssoff
Joss Whedon, creator of such television hits such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly, returned to television on Fox with Dollhouse. Now, however, Fox has pulled the plug on Dollhouse after giving the futuristic series two seasons to survive. Starring former Buffy alum and Dollhouse co-creator, Eliza Dushku as Echo, a DNA-altered human, a Doll, who has her memory wiped clean after completing a new assignment, Dollhouse earned a certain strong niche following but not enough to sustain life in a highly competitive TV market. According to many fans of Joss Whedon, Dollhouse was another brilliant showcase of Whedon’s blend of intelligent writing and innovative storytelling.
After lacklustre ratings in its first season, Fox ordered another thirteen episodes for season two, which began in September. However, although Dollhouse maintained a strong viewership amongst its core audience, ratings still failed to meet the expectations of Fox. Only nine episodes have been completed to date in season two of Dollhouse but Whedon already promised fans that the remaining thirteen episodes of Dollhouse will air, giving the show a proper series finale.
Whedonites will surely be working overtime on the petition scene now that Fox has almost wiped the memory of Dollhouse from its primetime line-up. Joss Whedon has already hinted at another project that he has in the works so fans may not have to wait long for another Whedon-themed venture.
Fans can still catch Dollhouse on Fox Fridays when the series returns on December 4 on Fox.
