New Moon Director Chris Weitz Reveals Sequel Secrets
by Larson Hill
With the Twilight sequel New Moon almost in theaters, New Moon director Chris Weitz got into the Twilight interview game along with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. In the latest New Moon interview to hit the web, director Chris Weitz sat down with Rolling Stone to talk New Moon vampires, the wolf pack, and scenes that Twilight Saga fans won't find in the Stephenie Meyer penned New Moon novel. Weitz, who took over the Twilight Saga reigns from director Catherine Hardwicke on Twilight, also reveals what he knew of vampires before coming to the Twilight Saga.
In the New Moon interview with Rolling Stone, Chris Weitz elaborated on the enhanced stunt work in New Moon and an underwater scene with Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan in which Stewart had a few worries about before stepping into the New Moon sequence. "... Kristen was already expressing a bit of concern about deep water, and I told her, '12 feet isn't that deep!' [Laughs] I decided to go down there in a wet suit weighted down and I started to panic."
Chris Weitz also revealed to Rolling Stone that he didn't do any research on vampires for New Moon outside of reading the Stephenie Meyer Twilight Saga books and even got some of the New Moon vampire scenes wrong in the beginning. "But I did make some mistakes - at one point I had one of the Volturi [the powerful law-upholding Vampires] holding a stone knife to Edward's throat, and she said that wouldn't work [because the Volturi] wouldn't cut Edward's throat. So I said, 'OK!' [Laughs]. I get my mythology wrong every once in a while and she sets me straight.
