Breaking a Survivor Tie with Laura Morett of Survivor Samoa by Troy Rogers
Although
most Survivor eyes have been on Texas oilman Russell
Hantz throughout Survivor Samoa, a number of Survivor
tribe mates have seen through Russell's devious
Survivor game play. Interestingly, those who have
challenged Russell the most on Survivor Samoa
have been the females of Foa Foa and Galu. One
of the strongest tribe members in Samoa turned
out to be Oregon office manager, Laura Morett
who quickly became a formidable Survivor force
after getting on the bad side of Shambo, helping
to vote off her tribe mate Erik, and winning consecutive
Survivor Samoa immunity challenges.
When the two tribes merged into one, Laura quickly became the center of Survivor Samoa attention as a power player with a target on her back. After one of the most memorable blindsides in Survivor history last week when Russell played his immunity idol to send Kelly home from Samoa, this week saw a consecutive and equally powerful blindside when Russell held onto another immunity idol, enlisted the help of new Survivor tribe mate John, and sent Laura packing from Survivor Samoa after a second vote at Tribal Council.
The next day we caught up with Survivor Laura Morett to find out what went wrong in Samoa, her feelings about voting Erik out of the game, and why she rubbed Shambo the wrong way.
THE DEADBOLT: How surprised were you that John flipped during the second vote?
LAURA
MORETT: I wasn't surprised. I was more surprised
that he didn't write my name down on the first
vote. I knew he was coming for me. What's really
not shown on there is Brett and I have a really
tight alliance. So I knew back when Russell
Swan was still on the show that John was threatened
by me and he wanted me out. I knew he had thrown
out both Mike and my name out earlier. So when
this opportunity came up to get rid of me and
it wasn't even really his original idea, I knew
he would be onboard.
THE DEADBOLT: Since that crazy blindside last week, did you ever regret voting Erik off?
LAURA: Yes, we did [laughs]. At the
time, when Erik was still there - I mean, what's
going through my mind is that I knew John threw
my name out there. I knew Shambo is coming for
me. I know Russell is coming for me and Mick
and Jaison and Natalie. And then to hear that
Erik is coming after me, too, it was just one
of those things where it's like I picked up
a gun and I'm going to shoot at somebody, because
I have everybody coming after me and he was
the one that got shot. I mean, obviously I ended
up shooting myself in the foot because we should've
kept him on there. So definitely a bad choice.
THE DEADBOLT: What was it like facing him at Ponderosa?
LAURA: [laughs] You know, I love Erik, he's a great guy. One of the great things about him is he's a huge competitor, and I appreciate that. But he was still clearly just a little bit, "What! How could you do that? I'm purple. I'm purple all the way." But again, what he didn't know was Brett was telling me everything that the guys were talking about. So whether he denied it or confirmed it or not, I knew that he was really threatened by me and Monica and that I was definitely on his range as a target. So I'm like, "Erik, come on, let's be real. You know that you were coming for me."
I
get how he was upset. But it wasn't until -
not this episode, but the episode before when
Kelly got blindsided - he actually sent me a
text and he was just like, "Morett, I'm really
sorry," because he thought he could control
Shambo. And the whole time I'm like, 'You can't.
The woman hates me Erik, trust me she is not
going to not write my name down.' And he's like,
"Morett, I can control her." So he texted me
and said, "I'm sorry, I had no idea you had
that many people coming after you." He thought
I was delusional. He thought, "You're panicking."
And I'm like, "I'm not. I have these people
coming for me." And he's like, "Morett, you
have to calm down." So after he saw the show,
and after he saw that John would flip and Shambo
would flip, it was nice to hear it. It was nice
to hear him say, "I see where you were coming
from."
THE DEADBOLT: What was behind the division
between you and Shambo? What happened there?
LAURA: You know, that's a really good
question. It's tough watching it and it's tough
me being cast as Medusa and the mean one. I
guess I would challenge anybody to show me one
thing that I did to be mean to her, because,
believe me, if I did something mean, CBS would
show it. CBS would be playing it again and again
and again. I didn't do anything to her.
She, I think, was threatened by the fact that
every time we'd go to a challenge and they'd
say, "Okay, you need your strongest girl and
your strongest guy." And the team would be,
"Lolo, Laura, you're our strongest girl." It's
like, "Thanks." Shambo's really going to hate
me now because it's like, "Who do we want to
go for the strongest girl, the ex-Marine or
the grandma?" And they're like, "We're going
to take the grandma." [laughs] So I'm sure she
was like, "Okay, nice."
My mother is full Hawaiian, so I'm very familiar
with the islands, all of my family lives there.
So people would come to me and say, "Lolo."
Lolo is my Hawaiian name. They would say, "How
do you do this? How do you weave this and can
we use this?" So people were always asking me
how to do things and I'm sure that probably
irritated her. She wanted to be the go to. I
think the final straw was just my relationship
that I had with everybody else.
I
have two adult kids and Monica and Kelly reminded
me a lot of my daughter. We really bonded and
we really cared about each other and really
loved each other. I think she just hated the
fact that I got along with everybody and she
felt isolated. I don't know, I guess it's a
better question to ask her.
THE DEADBOLT: Since Galu won pretty much every reward challenge, which one was your favorite?
LAURA: By far my favorite was the wrestling one where we were in the pit and you had to make a basket; so fun. I mean, how often do you get a chance as a forty year old - [laughs]. Well, you would never get a chance as a forty year old woman. As an adult, how often do you get a chance where someone says, "Okay, toe to toe! You're in this pit, here's the rules: There really aren't any rules. Somebody probably might get hurt. Ready, go!" It was so fun.
There is no footage showing Laura throwing Shambo shoes into the fire. Russell Swan sent Shambo to Foa Foa by himself. He had no time talk to Laura or any other Galu member who to send over. Laura had nothing to do with that. Also we can hear Russell Swan reasoning for sending Shambo over. Shambo lost the chicken. Same story with comfort items. Laura had no control what Russell would have picked. Never did i see Laura threaten Russell at any time.
Wasent Russell Swan the leader of Galu and as the leader he was in charge who goes over right.
He picked Shambo not Laura. Also you guys seems to forget that Shambo did sent Laura over to Foa Foa once. Laura never send Shambo over.

Subject: Why Shambo Hated Laura
Three Reasons:
1) Laura threw Shambo's tennis shoes in the fire the first week and Shannon was without shoes until Yasmin was votes off, leaving Shannon her high-tops.
2) Laura was the one who told Russell Swan that he had to send Shannon for a second time to Foa-Foa after she helped to win the food challenge. Laura threatened Russell that he would be voted off if he did not do what she said. This is the same reason he chose comfort items instead of a tarp - Laura threatened him.
3) Laura, Monica and Kelly sat around making fun of Shambo and calling her names. They were verbally abusive. Other players have hinted at this, but after the final show you will get to hear the real story.
Laura's lies are offensive for someone who claims they are a Christian.

I totally agree.
Come on Laura. Typical bully attitude. “I’ll bully people and treat others like sh*t, and when I get called on it, I’ll say I’ve always been nice to her, I’m the innocent one…” GIVE ME A BREAK.
Laura (and all the other mean girls) always treated Shambo as an outcast. Shambo might not be the smartest cookie, but she did do work for her tribe. Laura could have saved her own ass by trying to be nice, or even at least PRETENDING to be nice, rather than being a condescending, holier than thou B**CH. It was clear at Tribal Council when she said that the “Galu that SHE knew was still cohesive”, clearly alienating Shambo, again. Even I would have laughed in Laura’s face after losing the immunity challenge… what a B**CH.
I don’t think anyone deserved the treatment that Shambo got after being sent away from the reward twice. That was inhumane and insensitive. Yes, it’s part of the game, but don’t going around later pleading innocence. Karma is a B**CH.
