New Moon Attracts Varied Twilight Audience
by Larson Hill
With the Twilight Saga filled with teen love, it wouldn't be a stretch to say the New Moon box office audience would be mainly of the teen variety. Given how New Moon made an estimated $140 million in its three day opening weekend, obviously New Moon attracted a wider demographic beyond teens.
As the New Moon box office frenzy winds down in the first New Moon weekend, CBS News reports Twilighters of middle age and over 40 took in New Moon along with teen Twilight fans. CBS News correspondent Nancy Cordes found out first hand that many New Moon fans are older than the perceived Twilight Saga audience, as in a New Moon fan named Cathy Plume who admits to CBS that she and her Twilight Saga friends aren't the exact New Moon demographic, "We laugh about how silly it is to be captured by this movie."
According to the New Moon report, other older New Moon fans like Meg Symington echoed the same Twilight sentiment with memories of high school love, "Everybody remembers their high school love, their first crush, the emotion of it all," Meg revealed. "I think even at our age we can relate to that."
Given the staggering New Moon box office numbers,
it's important to mention that high New Moon
numbers are from repeat viewers, as CBS New
Moon fan Nancy Cordes heard many times while
standing in line at the box office, "I've seen
it twice. This will be my third time!"
How many times will you go see New Moon?
