New Moon Actor Michael Welch Surprised by Sequel Success
by Larson Hill
Although New Moon stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner have garnered most of the attention surrounding the success of New Moon, other New Moon actors like Michael Welch are voicing their Twilight opinions over the New Moon box office.
As New Moon dominates the box office, Twilight Saga actor Michael Welch recently talked Twilight shop with MTV about New Moon and the incredible run at the box office. Michael Welch, who plays Mike Newton in New Moon, recently dropped by MTV for his first interview following the record setting weekend of New Moon. Although New Moon surprised everyone over the weekend, Welch revealed that he's still shocked at the record New Moon set for the midnight screening. "That's amazing. That's crazy," said Welch to MTV. "And it's surprising, considering that so much of our fanbase are young kids out late on a Thursday night. I don't know if kids were skipping school on Friday or what, but still, I'm glad to have them. I would never condone kids skipping school, but thank you. I do appreciate it."
Since the New Moon numbers of the midnight screening were the start of the Twilight sequel success, the early New Moon record didn't prepare Michael Welch for the huge Twilight sized receipts that New Moon posted on Friday. Welch went on to mention that New Moon beat the previous record holder, The Dark Knight, which he saw three times in the theater and understands how New Moon has gained in popularity since Twilight. "I think a lot of people [discovered both franchises on DVD]. We maintain our original fanbase but have more and more people jumping on. I'm sure it will be even more for 'Eclipse.' It's just a snowball at this point."
So, do you believe that Eclipse will beat New Moon box office records? To see
