Avatar Cast Has Six Degrees of Comic Book Connections
by Larson Hill

Although the James Cameron directed Titanic wasn't based on a comic book, the new Cameron helmed Avatar does have some interesting Avatar comic book connections in terms of Avatar cast members. Since MTV has compiled an insightful Avatar look at where some of the Avatar cast came from in the comic book universe, it leads Avatar fans to speculate whether Avatar will ever become a page and panel giant in comic book geekdom.

As MTV points out, Avatar fans likely won't see an Avatar comic anytime soon although five Avatar cast members have a background and future in the comic book to film world. In looking at a couple Avatar actors, Avatar lead Sam Worthington signed onto The Last Days of American Crime amid Worthington's desire to play Captain America. In looking at Avatar cast comic lineage, Zoe Saldana has been tapped to appear in The Losers from Vertigo Comics, as Aisha.

Although James Cameron hasn't turned Avatar into a comic book, the Avatar director did sign off on at least two Avatar books as companion pieces, Avatar: A Confidential Report on the Biological and Social History of Pandora and The Art of Avatar: James Cameron's Epic Adventure from Harper Entertainment and Abrams Books respectively. Although Cameron has not expressed a desire to jump into the comic book or superhero world, his next project after Avatar has long slated to be Battle Angel Alita, based on the manga by Yukito Kishiro.

The interesting thing about the Avatar comic book connection, or obvious lack thereof, is that an Avatar toy line and Avatar video game are already in play. So is an Avatar comic book series that far off? Check out the Avatar cast comic book connections at MTV.
