According to The Hollywood Gossip, New Moon actor Robert Pattinson is allegedly in the mix to take over the role of Peter Parker and Spider-Man after Sony Pictures recently decided to reboot Spider-Man without director Sam Raimi and actor Tobey Maguire. The idea is for the Spider-Man franchise to go back to when Peter Parker was a high school student and talk around Hollywood has Robert Pattinson, Michael Cera, and Chace Crawford as the possible picks to become the new webslinger.
So what does our Spidey sense tell us about the news of Robert Pattinson and Spider-Man?
First of all, this sounds too convenient. Since the departure of Raimi and Maguire from Spider-Man is fresh news, it's too easy to start a rumor about Robert Pattinson in the role of Peter Parker. Since Sony wants to take Parker back to his teen roots, the Pattinson - Peter Parker speculation looks like a knee-jerk reaction for the sake of a good Pattinson story. Robert Pattinson is obviously the hottest teen demo star on the planet, so it's obvious his name would be mentioned. Who knows, anything's possible, but to us this sounds like nothing more than, "Hey, there's an opening for Peter Parker. Let's throw the name Robert Pattinson on the Spider-Man wall and see if it sticks because Pattinson is so popular."
There's no doubt that we'll also see news of Taylor Lautner as Spider-Man real soon.
I put my money on either Robert or Chase Crawford. No offense to Michael Cera but I just can't see him taking over the role of Peter Parker.
