Twilight Star Robert Pattinson Helps in Hope for Haiti by Larson Hill
After Twilight and New Moon fans wondered whether Robert Pattinson would lend his Twilight Saga celebrity to the Hope for Haiti Telethon, Pattinson and the Hollywood community came out in droves on January 22 to help with the Hope for Haiti telethon. All eyes were on New Moon actor Robert Pattinson, who earlier this week agreed to participate in Hope for Haiti to aid the earthquake ravaged people of Haiti. During the Hope for Haiti Telethon, Robert Pattinson read a moving statement via satellite from London.
According to MTV, Twilight and New Moon actor Robert Pattinson appeared on camera from London sporting a full beard and stressed the importance that technology has played in the ongoing relief efforts in Haiti. In making his statement, Robert Pattinson read the story of a young Haitian girl who was trapped under rubble for six days and was rescued because of a text message she sent while unable to move.
Although Robert Pattinson is the biggest star of the Twilight Saga, Pattinson wasn't the only New Moon cast member involved in the Hope for Haiti Telethon, as Taylor Lautner and Anna Kendrick were also on hand in L.A. to help on the phones and take donations from generous callers.
Below is the heartwarming story Robert Pattinson read to viewers in his Hope for Haiti appearance:
"Underneath a flattened university, Maxine Fallon waited. She was crouched in a fetal position and could barely move. In the darkness and during the hectic sounds of the day, through the pain, the hunger and thirst, she prayed that someone would find her. And on the sixth day her prayers were answered, she was found because of a text message from the rubble sent rescuers to her side. Unlike any other event in history, our world has been connected to this tragedy because of technology. Twitter updates, Facebook pages with pictures of the missing and text messages for help. This technology is working right now to connect us, too. At hopeforhaitinow.org, you can donate and you can instantly interact with people in Haiti and anywhere in the globe. Join with those watching and see what they're saying about something we all care deeply about - helping the Haitian people get back on their feet. Please go to hopeforhaitinow.org. Thank you."
