The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Tumbles at the Box Office

Although The Twilight Saga: Eclipse put up stellar box office numbers in its opening week, Eclipse couldn't claim #1 at the box-office this past weekend and took a major Twilight tumble. In first spot, Despicable Me brought in over $60 million while The Twilight Saga: Eclipse brought in $33 million for second.

Even with stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner in theaters, Eclipse dropped by almost 50% but still adds to the total domestic box office take of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which stands at close to $237 million. Eclipse has yet to outperform New Moon, which took in almost $300 million domestically, but has exceeded New Moon in the international market with over $450 million in worldwide sales.

So, after a lot of manufactured press and popularity, it appears The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is proving that a Twilight Saga box office cap is somewhere around an inflated $300 million domestic. It's interesting how Twilight only made $192 million and even more shocking when you look at how Twilight made only $199 million worldwide in 2008.
