Kate Moss, Calvin Klein Reunite
By Steve Taylor
Tuesday, April 11, 2006
Kate Moss has continued her quick climb back to the top of the fashion world, having signed a $900,000 deal with the company that launched her 14 years ago, Calvin Klein.
The deal will put Kate Moss on tap for a new ad campaign
to be launched by CK for its Calvin Klein Jeans. The
face of Kate Moss will market the brand name on billboards
and in magazines in the fall campaign. The ads will
be shot this week in New York and will place Kate Moss
next to male model Jamie Dornan. Dornan may be better
known to some as Kiera Knightley's ex, though he will
be making his big screen debut in the Sofia Coppola
movie, Marie-Antoinette, starring Kirsten Dunst
and Jason Schwartzman.
According to Ireland
On-Line, the campaign's creative director,
Fabien Baron said "Kate and the Calvin Klein brand
have a long history together and it felt natural to
reunite them for this new jeans campaign, which will
inevitably reignite that spark and highlight the sexy,
cool essence of both Kate and Calvin Klein."
This deal with Calvin Klein follows up on her other
contracts with, among others, Virgin Mobile,
Dior, Stella McCartney, Rimmel,
Longchamp and Roberto Cavalli. With the
new CK deal, Kate Moss is now earning £4.5 million ($7.8
million), and has earned £9.4 million ($16.4 million)
since her cocaine scandal broke.
The cocaine scandal stems back to September 15, 2005,
when the British publication, The Daily Mirror
ran a cover photo and several photos inside the publication
that they claimed showed Kate Moss snorting cocaine
at a Babyshambles recording session. Babyshambles'
lead singer and songwriter was Kate's boyfriend at the
time, Pete Doherty. Doherty would check himself into
a rehab clinic, and after he failed to complete the
rehab, Kate Moss would end the relationship in November
2005. Moss had successfully gone through rehab in October
2005.
The impact on Kate Moss' modeling career was swift
and damaging. Swedish fashion retailer H&M dropped
Moss from the advertising campaign, ending a £4 million
($7 million) contract. The nest day, Chanel announced
they wouldn't renew Moss' contract. Burberry
followed suit, dropping Kate Moss from the advertising.
Kate Moss issued an apology for her drug use, and has
come back to an incredible resurgence in her career.
She was never charged with any crime, and is now on
her way back to the top of the fashion world.
