Britney Spears, Kevin Federline Visited By Child Welfare

Tuesday, April 11, 2006
Britney Spears and her husband, Kevin Federline, received a visit from the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services over the weekend, along with a Sheriff's deputy.
Officials declined to say if the pop diva was under
investigation. They also declined to give details of
their visit to the home of Britney, Kevin, and their
infant son Sean Preston Federline. The Chicago
Tribune quoted Lt. Debra Glaskides of the Sheriff's
department as saying "It's a very standard, routine
patrol request,. We just roll out with them. We stood
by, we took no action, no report or anything."
She went on to say that there may not be a DCFS investigation,
adding it may be a simple welfare check.
Canada.com
has reported that Sean Preston had suffered a fractured
skull after falling out of his highchair on April 1st.
Britney and Kevin did not initially take their child
to hospital, but did so on April 7th after noticing
that Sean was sleeping more than normal. The article
reads "Tests reportedly revealed that the baby,
almost seven months old, suffered a skull fracture and
blood clot."
This is not the first time Britney Spears has had to
deal with the Department of Children and Family Services.
In February, DCFS visited Britney's home after photographs
were published that showed Spears driving with her now
6-month old son on her lap, and not in a children's
car seat, as is required by law. As was reported by
the Mercury
News, "The 24-year-old pop star later apologized,
saying she did it because of a 'horrifying, frightful
encounter with the paparazzi.'"
Spears came under the gun for that event, from sources
including the US Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta.
During a Child Passenger Safety Week event in Philadelphia,
Mineta was quoted as saying "Recent photos of Britney
Spears driving with her infant son on her lap are troubling.
And while Ms. Spears has acknowledged her mistake, her
actions still send the wrong message to millions of
her fans," by the Mercury
News.
Neither party has been forthcoming with the details
of the case. Britney's publicist, Leslie Sloane Zelnik,
did not return phone and e-mail messages left at her
New York office. As well, DCFS director Louise Grasmehr
did not return calls today. It is not unusual for DCFS
to refuse to comment on situations, as they cite confidentiality
laws.
Britney Spears also made infamous news this week by
being left off of FHM's Top 100 Sexiest
Women in the World, a list she topped two years
ago (See Britney
