The spotlight that was once so kind and loving has turned harsh and ugly for the former Mrs. Paul McCartney, Heather Mills, in the middle of a heated divorce from the former Beatle and fending off new, more salacious tabloid stories every day. The latest headline, printed in the The News of the World, screamed at international readers - "Bisexual Heather sold her body to Arabs for years." Heather Mills isn't taking this one lying down, as ABC News reports, "Mills' lawyers say the claims in the News of the World are 'untrue and highly defamatory.' Apparently Mills plans to sue the paper as soon as her divorce from McCartney is complete. We're told she's 'very distressed' by the News of the World article. 'These are not new stories and were refuted by her lawyers four years ago when first raised,' Mills' lawyers' said in a statement. 'The sources clearly are a variety of unreliable persons who have been paid for these stories.'

The Associated Press issued more details about the legal statement, from the law firm of Coyle White Devine, who will represent Heather Mills McCartney in her legal battle against the tabloids, reprinted by ABC News, "Heather is very distressed by this article," said the statement from the law firm of Coyle White Devine, adding that she will sue for libel. She will defer issue of legal proceedings until the arrangements in relation to the divorce are concluded but intends to sue at that stage all parties (including individuals) who are intent on damaging her reputation."

It sounds like the story was looked into years ago but kept under wraps because of the almost royal status of Heather Mills because of her marriage to former Beatle, Paul McCartney. With that throne abdicated, Heather Mills now appears to be fair game for every kind of story. The News of the World story followed on the heels of a scandal involving sexy pictures of Heather Mills from a German book published in The Sun under the headline, "Lady Macca Hard Core Porn Shame." The book, Die Freuden Der Liebe, from 1988 is rumored to be republished to capitalize on the tabloid stories.

Heather Mills confirmed yesterday what most of the world already suspected, which is that she is, in fact, getting a divorce from Paul McCartney. As reported by The Chicago Tribune, "Heather Mills McCartney confirmed Tuesday that she and Paul McCartney will divorce and says she plans to sue newspapers that have been digging into her past. The couple had not mentioned divorce when they announced May 17 that they had "decided to go our separate ways" after four years of marriage."

The former Beatle and international superstar, Paul McCartney, did what most of us would do amidst all of the tabloid/lawsuit/gossip melodrama - he took off. As reported by All Headline News, "Sir Paul McCartney has fled to New York to escape the furor surrounding his failed marriage. The former Beatle left Britain on Tuesday for a four-day business trip but will return to the UK to celebrate his 64th birthday this weekend. Paul has been "deeply shocked" by allegations his estranged wife, Heather Mills, posed naked for a sex book and worked as a high-class prostitute."
