Naomi Campbell May Get Plea Deal

What's up with celebrities using cell phones as weapons? The latest celeb phone tosser, Naomi Campbell, appeared in court on Tuesday looking more like a supermodel and less like a criminal, but reports surfaced that the star may get a plea deal in her assault case. Reuters broke the story, ""There has been no grand jury action at this time. We are talking about a disposition," assistant District Attorney Shanda Strain, the assistant district attorney told Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Evelyn Laporte. What that means is that Campbell will be back in court on September 27 to either accept a plea deal or learn that she has been indicted for second-degree assault in a case in which housekeeper Ana Scolavino says the model threw a phone at her."

It was back in March that Naomi Campbell was arrested for hitting her housekeeper, Ana Scolavino, over the head with her cell phone, which opened a wound big enough that it needed four staples to close. That's no small wound and it comes with an equally not-so-tiny possible jail sentence of up to seven years for the 36 year-old Naomi Campbell. This isn't the first time Naomi Campbell has turned vicious, as The Washington Post reported, "The volatile Campbell has a history of problems with her employees. In 2003, she was sued by a former administrative assistant who said Campbell had thrown a phone at her during a tantrum two years earlier. In August 2004, in the same apartment, Campbell and her maid battled it out, with the worker claiming the supermodel slapped her across the face. Campbell accused maid Millicent Burton of instigating the fight."

Of course, Naomi Campbell showed up in court looking more like a supermodel than a supervillain, and that brought out the bugs that follow the brightest lights, the paparazzi. As USA Today reported, "The real action came outside the lower Manhattan courthouse, where close to 50 photographers and camera crews waited for a shot of Campbell after her appearance before Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Evelyn Laporte. The 35-year-old supermodel, along with attorney David Breitbart and her small retinue, was forced to hide inside the courthouse for about five minutes until a car arrived to deliver them from the media horde."

As if the current charges against Naomi Campbell weren't enough, further legal action began on Monday, by another supposed victim of the supermodel, housekeeper Gaby Gibson. People had the details on round two of Campbell versus her staff, "Meanwhile, Campbell is facing a similar accusation from another former employee. In a case filed Monday in Manhattan's State Supreme Court, housekeeper Gaby Gibson asks for "actual, compensatory and punitive" damages, although she does not specify an amount, the AP reports. She also accuses Campbell of employment discrimination and causing personal injuries. Gibson's legal papers do not detail the alleged acts by Campbell, but in an April interview, Gibson told the New York Post that the supermodel, 36, hit her on Jan. 17, called her names and threatened to have her arrested after Campbell couldn't find a specific pair of jeans."
