Island Records Dumps Lindsay Lohan
By Doug Pendrell
Tuesday, August 1, 2006
After getting in trouble for collapsing
due to heat exhaustion on the set of her
new movie, Georgia Rule, Lohan was not-so-privately
chastised for her late-night partying and
her lack of professionalism around the movie set. Now,
Lohan will have one less obligation to handle, as her
record label, Island Records, has reportedly chopped
her off their slate.
As Ireland
On-Line lays it out, "Lindsay Lohan
has reportedly been fired by her UK record label Island
Records after she failed to travel to London for a planned
promotional campaign for her album Speak."
Somewhat ironically, the single Lohan refused to promote
was entitled 'Over', which may aptly describe her career
as a pop singer.
The British paper, The
Sun quoted an industry insider as saying
"A single was a huge flop over here because Lindsay
couldn't be bothered to get off her bum and promote
it. In the end they didn't even bother releasing the
album, called Speak, in Britain. She didn't bother to
come over to the UK to do interviews or make TV appearances
to help sell the album. Island have now decided not
to do another one with her."
Things have been rough for Lindsay Lohan in the past
week or so. First, she was overcome
by the heat on the set of Georgia Rule,
and had to be taken to the hospital (it was 105 degrees
on set that day). After that, a letter from the Morgan
Creek producer of Georgia Rule, James G. Robinson, appeared
on the website, The Smoking Gun. The letter
insinuated it was Lohan's partying ways that sent her
to the hospital. Lindsay's mother, Dina Lohan, then
burst out at the producers for attacking her. Now this.
Lindsay Lohan, who turned 20 a month ago, has been
a triple threat in the public eye. She began acting
on TV in Another World, not including her several
commercial spots, before she turned to film. Her first
role was in The Parent Trap in 1997, though it
would be 2003 when she landed her next role, which was
alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in Freaky Friday.
Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and Mean
Girls would be Lohan's true breakout films. Since
then, she has done Herbie: Fully Loaded, Just
My Luck and A Prairie Home Companion, and
is now doing Georgia Rule. Her triple threat
comes from her early modeling, her acting, and her singing.
Lohan sang on the Freaky Friday soundtrack, as
well as the Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen
soundtrack.
The album that UK record execs shelved, Speak,
was actually her first of two albums she has released
in the United States. Speak peaked at #4 on U.S.
charts, selling 1.1 million albums domestically. Her
follow-up, A Little More Personal (Raw) has sold
half a million albums in the U.S., and reached the height
of #20 on the charts.
