Axl Rose Sidelined by Mystery Illness

Wednesday, August 2, 2006
Guns N’ Roses lead singer, Axl Rose, was rushed off
stage before the end of the band’s Wembley Arena show
on Sunday. It was reported that Rose came down with
an illness and wasn’t able to finish the set.
It was the final show on Guns N’ Roses European tour
and they almost got through it without incident, unless
you count Axl’s arrest early on in Sweden.
With only two songs remaining, Axl fell sick and had
to be replaced by ex-Skid Row front man, Sebastian Bach,
who was a special guest that evening. andPOP reports that aside from Rose bowing out towards
the end of the Wembley show, the singer said the band
had an ”amazing tour”.
What actually happened to Axl Rose? It seems that it
wasn’t anything serious. Earlier that day, doctors diagnosed
him with with low blood pressure and low blood sugar
after he had already performed two shows. According
to the BBC,
doctors had advised him against doing the show Sunday
night, as he had already performed at Wembley that morning
and did a surprise show at The Cuckoo Club. After the
concert, Axl didn’t have any regrets about going against
his doctor’s orders. ”I approached this last show
with equal parts determination, obligation, responsibility
and insanity.”
Formed in 1985, Guns N' Roses shot to stardom with
the release of their debut album, Appetite for Destruction
in 1987, which produced such hit songs as "Welcome
to the Jungle", "Paradise City", and "Sweet Child O'
Mine". It wasn't until 1991 that Guns N' Roses became
legendary rock gods with the release of the multi-platinum
double album Use Your Illusion and Use Your Illusion
II, which featured such hits as "November Rain", "Don't
Cry", "Live and Let Die", "Civil War", "You Could Be Mine",
and the unforgettable Bob Fylan cover, "Knocking on Heaven's Door". After a heated public
break up in 1993 at the end of their historic 28 month
Use Your Illusion Tour, Guns N' Roses parted ways for
good. Slash went on to form the short lived band Slash's
Snakepit, while Axl Rose fell into relative obscurity
and seclusion, appearing every so often with new incarnations
of the band.
