Monday, August 21, 2006
Kevin Federline performed at the end of the 2006 Teen Choice Awards in Universal City, California, for his first live performance on television. Doing everything he could to shake the title of Mr. Britney Spears, Federline put on a decent performance that was sure to save him from too much criticism.
K-Fed gave a high-energy performance of his new single,
"Lose Control", to eager fans. While the experience
was undoubtedly a good one for his career, Kevin Federline
was slightly upstaged by his introducer: Britney Spears.
The heavily-pregnant Britney Spears appeared on stage
wearing a low-cut, cleavage-baring dress to introduce
Federline to the audience. Spears stepped up and said
"This show has been very good to me and my career
over the years. And I'm hoping that it will be as good
to our next performer." That was followed up with
"'Please give a big welcome to my man, Kevin Federline."
Kevin Federline appeared on stage wearing a baggy white
shirt with a white hat, and began leaping around the
stage, surrounded by young dancers. Federline put on
his best tough-guy look and rapped "I ain't here
to brag."
There were mixed reaction to Federline's debut TV performance.
Ludacris, who real name is Chris Bridges, was quoted
by USA
Today as praising Kevin Federline by saying
"I'm very proud of him. He's faced so much negative
criticism."
On the other side of the coin, American Idol
judge Paula Abdul said she didn't hear much of the song,
but others told her it wasn't very good. That led Abdul
to say "the person I feel saddest for is Britney."
That followed a Paul Abdul quote from just before Federline's
performance, when she advised Federline to "Do what
you gotta do and have fun."
Beyond the Kevin Federline drama, Reese Witherspoon
took Best Actress in a Drama Role for Walk The Line,
Best Kiss went to The Lake House stars Keanu
Reeves and Sandra Bullock, and Johnny Depp scored big
with Best Actor in a Drama/Action Adventure for Pirates
of the Caribbean and Best Actor, Comedy for Charlie
and the Chocolate Factory.
Awkward moments abounded at the award ceremony hosted
by Dane Cook and Jessica Simpson. Simpson took home
honors for Best Female Breakout Role in The Dukes
of Hazzard while her ex-husband, Nick Lachey took
home Best Love Song honors for his song about his and
Simpson's public divorce, "What's Left of Me". ABC
News quoted Lachey's acceptance speech as starting
off with "I just want to start off by saying, awkward,
a little bit." It would have been more awkward
as both Simpson and Lachey were nominated for the Hottie
Female and Hottie Male Awards. Instead, those honors
went to Jessica Alba and Orlando Bloom.
Britney Spears and Kevin Federline were married on
September 18th, 2004. They had their first child together,
Sean Preston Federline, on September 14th, 2005. On
May 10th, 2006, Spears confirmed
her second pregnancy on the Late Show with
David Letterman last month. Britney Spears is the best-selling
female artist of the 2000s, having sold 85 million albums.
Britney's albums include Baby, One More Time, Oops!
I Did It Again, Britney, In The Zone, Greatest Hits:
My Prerogative and has appeared in movies such as The
New Mickey Mouse Club, Crossroads and In The Pink. Kevin
Federline is expected to be releasing his debut album,
Playing
with Fire, in the very near future, own his
own record label, Federation
Records.
