Britney Spears Snubs Jessica Simpson's Kiss

The 2006 Teen Choice Awards are still a hot topic of conversation. Kevin Federline was apparently snubbed at his own after-party, Britney Spears wouldn't spit her chewing gum out before going on stage, nor would she let host Jessica Simpson kiss her pregnant belly, and, rumor has it, Jessica Simpson and her ex-husband, Nick Lachey, had an unfortunate chance encounter backstage.
Starting from the top, Kevin Federline planned an exlcusive
after-party following his
performance at the 2006
Teen Choice Awards. As The
Bosh reports, Kevin Federline "invited
a galaxy of stars, including Jessica Simpson, 'The O.C.'
star Mischa Barton, 'Superman Returns' actor Brandon
Routh, and singer Nelly Furtado, to the VIP event but
none of them showed up."
Dave Navarro, former Jane's Addiction and Red Hot Chili
Peppers guitarist, was on The Jimmy Kimmel Show
and had this to say about Kevin Federline's performance.
"Oh, dude, you're going to do this to me? Yes, I
did. I'll tell you what blew me away about it - he had
acrobatics and fire and all this stuff going on - all
these people that are very, very talented around him.
So, I guess that works. I mean, it was a spectacle to
say the least. I was not impressed, I was not blown
away."
Next up, Britney Spears. Apparently, Britney Spears
loves her chewing gum. After bring chastised for chewing
gum during her interview with Matt Lauer in June, she
did it again. Teen
Hollywood quoted a source from the award show
as saying "We told her to spit out her gum, but
she refused." The chewing gum debacle occurred
just before Spears went out on stage to introduce her
hubby, Kevin Federline, and his "Lose Control" performance.
Also, while she was backstage, Britney Spears managed
to offend someone else. Award show host Jessica Simpson
asked if she could kiss Britney Spears' pregnant stomach.
It turns out that Spears is protective of her belly,
and immediately shot back a "Hell, no!". A
witness to the debacle would tell Us Weekly
that "Jessica was really insulted, but Britney refused
to let her do it."
And, for the final awkward moment of the evening, host
Jessica Simpson couldn't manage to avoid her ex-husband,
Nick Lachey. Lachey won the Best Love Song award for
his song about his divorce from Simpson, entitled "What's
Left of Me." While the two managed to miss each other
onstage, a chance encounter saw the two of them meet
backstage. Simpson allegedly "freak[ed] out" after they
bumped into each other. A witness to that event told
Us Weekly "They looked at each other, then
Nick looked away and kept walking. Jessica freaked out,
though and (friend and hairstylist) Ken Paves started
fanning her."
