Bruce Springsteen Denies Break-Up Rumors
By Scott Ferguson
Tuesday, August 29, 2006
According to rumors, Bruce Springsteen is breaking up and, no, not with the E Street Band, with wife Patti Scialfa. Well, Patti Scialfa is in the E Street Band, but this is more serious than that. On Thursday, The New York Post reported that Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa were breaking up and that another woman was involved, a 9/11 widow that Bruce Springsteen met at a charity event he was organizing. A source reportedly told The New York Post, about Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa, "They're separated, but everyone has been sworn to secrecy." Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa have been married for fifteen years and have three children. Patti Scialfa is Bruce Springsteen's second wife, having been married to Julianne Phillips before her.
On Tuesday, Bruce Springsteen hit the net, through
is official website - brucespringsteen.net
- and posted the following message - "Due to the
unfounded and ugly rumors that have appeared in the
papers over the last few days, I felt they shouldn't
pass without comment. Patti and I have been together
for 18 years - the best 18 years of my life. We have
built a beautiful family we love and want to protect
and our commitment to one another remains as strong
as the day we were married."
Despite the rumors about Bruce Springsteen and Patti
Scialfa printed in The New York Post on Thursday,
the two supposedly separated partners appeared happy
as could be in public on Friday. It was reported that
Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa were seen, hand
in hand, in Red Bank, New Jersey on Friday going antique
shopping, including picking up an old guitar and mandolin
and giving a brief concert for the gathered fans. Not
exactly the behavior of a separated couple.
Patti Scialfa has recorded two albums of her own and
worked with The E Street Band as a performer behind
Bruce Springsteen before the two were married or even
romantically linked (in fact, she was there when The
Boss was still married to Julianne Phillips). Bruce
Springsteen has been a consistent force in music for
decades with his best-known work including Born to
Run, Nebraska, Born in the U.S.A.,
Tunnel of Love, and The Rising. His most
recent work, We Shall Overcome - The Seeger Sessions
was released just this April to high acclaim.
