More details about the tragic death of Anna Nicole Smith's son, Daniel Smith, have surfaced. After learning of her son's death, Anna Nicole began frantically trying to revive her lifeless son, forcing her to be sedated after his death, according to Smith's attorney.
Anna Nicole Smith lost her son on Sunday as Daniel Smith was visiting her in her hospital. Anna Nicole had given birth to a baby daughter just three days prior. ABC News quoted Smith's attorney, Michael Scott, as confessing "The devastation and grief over Daniel's sudden death coupled with the sedation has been so extreme that Anna Nicole experienced memory loss of the event."
A formal inquiry has been scheduled for next month after the chief inspector of the Bahamas coroner's office called the death of the 20 year old "suspicious". Details have surfaced that claim Anna Nicole and Daniel were not alone in the room at the time of death. However, it's now believed the third person in the room as the time was another of Anna Nicole Smith's lawyers, Howard K. Stern.
Despite having been pronounced dead, Anna Nicole vainly attempted to revive her son. Her lawyer, Michael Scott, read from a prepared statement that "Anna Nicole was so distraught at the loss of Daniel that she refused to leave his side and it was necessary to sedate her in order to check her out of the hospital. The statement went on to say that Smith suffered memory loss and that it "was necessary for Howard to tell Anna again that Daniel had passed away."
Regarding Daniel Stern's death, authorities have label the death a 'suspicious death', but have not directly indicated foul play. Coroner Linda Virgill was quoted by Reuters as saying " Whenever we have sudden deaths, and we term them 'suspicious deaths', it is usual to have this type of procedure."
Anna Nicole Smith has been in seclusion since her son's heartbreaking death. Smith's attorney, Michael Scott, was quoted by MSNBC as confessing Anna Nicole Smith " fully wants this process to take place and she wishes the public to not jump to conclusions and to wait for the conclusion of the proceedings." As for Anna Nicole, Scott said " She's resting. She's obviously devastated. It's going to take a long time to heal. She's in seclusion and she wants some privacy."
Daniel's death followed shortly after Anna Nicole Smith gave birth to a baby daughter. On AnnaNicole.com, an announcement was made that said " On September 7th Anna Nicole gave birth to a healthy 6 pound, 9 ounce baby girl. Her son Daniel was in the Bahamas with her to share in the joy of his baby sister when he passed away suddenly on the morning of September 10th. We have yet to learn the cause of death but do not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor. Anna Nicole is absolutely devastated by the loss of her son. He was her pride and joy and an amazing human being. Please do not make any press inquiries at this time so that Anna Nicole can grieve in peace."
Police believe they know what caused Daniel Smith's death, but said they will wait for toxicology reports to confirm their suspicions.
