By Steve Taylor
Monday, April 3, 2006
"Material Girl" Madonna has announced her plans to "turn the world into one big dance floor" during her next world tour. Details of the pop queen's tour have recently been made public, and will kick off in Los Angeles on May 21st.
In support of her critically-acclaimed new album Confessions
On A Dance Floor, Madonna will travel through the
United States, Canada, Europe and Japan. Madonna will
play at the Coachella Festival in Indio, California
on April 30th for the first time, as a build-up to the
tour. Other acts at Coachella this year include Massive
Attack and Daft Punk. The BBC
quoted Madonna as saying "I've never performed at
a festival and I'm especially excited about playing
at Coachella before I start my own tour".
Madonna's North American leg will see her play arenas
throughout the continent, with dates in Los Angeles,
Las Vegas, San Jose, Fresno, Glendale, Chicago, Montreal,
Hartford, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlantic City
and Miami. These dates will stretch from May 21st until
July 22nd.
After finishing up in North America, Madonna will head
to Europe, starting off in Cardiff, Wales on July 30th.
This will be Madonna's first ever concert in Wales.
After that, Madonna will make appearances in London,
Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Hanover, Dusseldorf, and Horsens,
Denmark, according to the BBC.
The "Material Girl" will go on to play shows in Osaka
and Tokyo, though no dates are set yet.
Madonna's Confessions Tour will be directed
by Jamie King. Stuart Price will be the musical director,
and Jean-Paul Gaultier will design Madonna's costumes.
The Confession Tour is the pop star's first since
2004's Re-Invention Tour, which was a 56-show
tour covering 20 cities, and grossed roughly $125 million,
being seen by 880,000 fans. Much like the Re-Invention
Tour, Madonna will not perform on Fridays, in keeping
with her Kabbalah beliefs.
MTV
reports that Madonna will release 3 12" vinyl records
to coincide with her tour's commencement. These remixes
will be "Hung Up" (SDP Extended Vocal) with "Hung
Up" (SDP Extended Dub); "Sorry" (Man With Guitar Mix)
and "Get Together" (Jacques Lu Cont Mix); and "I Love
New York" (Thin White Duke Remix) with "Let It Will
Be (Paper Faces Mix)." Only 3,000 copies of Confessions
Remixed will be released.
Madonna, 47, has had huge success throughout the 80s,
90s and 2000s, with huge hits, including #1's like "Like
A Virgin", "Papa Don't Preach", "Open Your Heart", "
Like A Prayer", "Vogue", "Justify My Love" and "Music". Her successful albums include, Like a Virgin, Like a Prayer, The Immaculate Collection, Evita, Ray of Light, Music, and American Life.
Her new album, Confessions of a Dance Floor has
been #1 in 40 countries, and the first single "Hung
Up" has been #1 in 41 countries, with both of those
statistics being records. The Guinness Book of World
