Katie Holmes' Dad Slams Tom Cruise's Fitness Routine

Tom Cruise has reportedly put fiancée Katie Holmes on a grueling and intensive fitness regime in order to get the 27-year-old actress in shape for their wedding. The news comes two weeks after the birth of TomKat's first child, Suri.

According to the South African website Tonight, Tom Cruise has "allegedly signed his fiancée up to a 'Buff Brides' exercise course to help her shed about 18kg before their upcoming nuptials."

Katie Holmes is said to be proud of Tom's commitment to her and to getting her fit again after the birth of Suri. However, Tom Cruise didn't make a fan out of Katie's father Martin. iAfrica reports that Martin Holmes told Reveal magazine that "My daughter needs rest, relaxation and recuperation. Katie is already doing exercises to build up her back and shoulders and I simply can't go along with what is happening."

Martin Holmes was rebuffed, however, by Sue Fleming, owner of Buff Brides. Ireland On-Line quoted Fleming as saying "Katie can and will do it. She has great motivation. She loves her fiance and was proud that Tom oversaw this programme. He told her he wanted her to be the most beautiful bride ever. She was in tears when he said that."

While all the chatter about the post-pregnancy Katie Holmes, Brooke Shields spoke out about the irony of giving birth to her baby on the same floor of the same hospital on the same day as Katie Holmes. Brooke Shields showed little sign of her pregnancy when she was spotted at the premiere of Over the Hedge. Shields wanted to say that she had put her public spat with Tom Cruise behind her.

"You know, the irony is perfect. The world works in an interesting way, but we (were) both pretty busy that day," was the quote on the People website. Shields was asked if she had any run-ins with Tom Cruise that day, to which she replied "No. God, no, and it's a gift having kids, you know, so it's a beautiful thing rather than anything else." Brooke Shields was also asked about the location being the same for the birth of her daughter, Grier, to which she quipped "Yeah, rumor has it. Again, I was pretty distracted."

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes still have not announced a wedding date, though it is believed to be happening this summer. Katie Holmes has been out of the pubic eye since the birth, while Tom Cruise has been very much in sight. Cruise has been globe-trotting in support of his upcoming blockbuster movie, Mission: Impossible 3. Cruise just finished the premiere of M:I:3 in Mexico City, and will be in attendance at the Tribeca Film Festival tomorrow for the United States debut of the film, which will open to the public on May 5th.
