For all of the contempt movie fans have for remakes, 3:10 to Yuma proves that a film can be updated or remade when the right decisions are made. Originally directed by Delmer Daves in 1957, based on a story by Elmore Leonard, 3:10 to Yuma was a smart choice for Walk the Line director James Mangold given the potential to expand on the inner battle within the main character Dan Evans (now played by Christian Bale). Although the original was a stripped down version of what was released in 2007, the new 3:10 to Yuma takes viewers on a deeper journey into the main character, reinforcing a certain faith in humanity while Evans crosses the line between good and bad and attempts to deliver notorious outlaw Ben wade (Russell Crowe) to justice. Serving up one of the best Westerns of the last quarter century, James Mangold's translation of 3:10 to Yuma proves that modern filmmakers can indeed dip into the gold mine of great stories of days gone by to contradict the backlash of disdain directed at so many recent remakes.

"Destination Yuma" offers an awesome inside look at how James Mangold and crew opened up the story to make it more relevant for today's audiences. Also, the in-depth segment explores everything from set design and the script to the challenges of location, building the town of Contention, the action, and James Mangold's overall vision. Although the disc only serves up three featurettes (all are great on their own), seven decent delted scenes, and an engaging commentary by James Mangold, every extra delivers quality info, from the history of the Western and Outlaw gangs to making an epic Western for modern viewers and how Hollywood incorporates fantasy into Westerns so movie-goers can relate to various social issues.

The fact that there isn't a second bonus disc with more documentaries and a commentary by Christian Bale and Russell Crowe.

In an age when the film market is being flooded by sub-par remakes of classic or cult films, 3:10 to Yuma is an amazing upgrade to an already great film. Not only does the film look fantastic on DVD, the initial home entertainment release gives Western fans a solid product to sink their teeth into. If you're looking for a great film with an efficient amount of quality extras, hop onboard the 3:10 to Yuma. Trust me, you won't be sorry.
