One of the few movies that actually deserves the term 'Tour-de-Force', Chinatown has withstood the test of time. More than 30 years after its release, its still one of the best movies of the 1970s. The noir genre owes a big thanks to the Roman Polanski classic, written by the great Robert Towne, the only person to win an Academy Award for the film. While the film rides on several undercurrents and follows more than one gripping sub-plot, the main storyline is tied to Jake 'J.J.' Gittes, a private eye hired to follow a potentially cheating husband. However, when it turns out that the person who hired Jake wasn't the suspect's wife, and a scandal breaks at city hall, the intrigue reaches a fever pitch. Twists, turns, death and murder punctuate what can only be described as one of the best movies that changed how films were made.

It's so hard to pull one feature out of the set as the golden gem. The never before seen features are highlighted by interviews with the eccentric Jack Nicholson and master director Roman Polanski. While much of their conversations ride high on nostalgia, none of the banter ever comes close to boring the listener. So much information about the project wasn't known until both spilled their guts on the DVD. Also, with the new edition of Chinatown, the picture looks much clearer and noticeably better in the audio department than any other home video release.

If you REALLY want the trailer, it's here.

The movie is a must-have, there's just no way around it. Not because it's "classic" or the fact that it's now "legendary," but Jack Nicholson turns in one of his best performances. Add to that, Roman Polanski was at the top of his game, and Robert Towne wrote one of the best scripts of his career. Chinatown is just too awesome to pass up.
