I'm so tired of people complaining about the recent seasons of Scrubs. I've watched the show since the beginning, so I know of where I speak, and, sure, it might have dipped a little in quality, but not enough that anyone who calls themselves a fan should ditch it now that it's coming to an end (the current season will be the last). Scrubs got a little too wacky for its own good (the common complaint), but what's ignored is that Braff, Chalke, Faison, and Reyes - the core of the show - have all become better actors. Add cameos by wonderful actresses like Keri Russell and Elizabeth Banks and what are you complaining about? Here's the diagnosis - the writing's a little down and the acting's a little up. The patient is fine in season six.

No one seemed to care as much as the producers thought they would (it seems clear Scrubs will never be the hit it should have been), but the all-musical episode of Scrubs, featuring songwriting by some Tony-winning composers was enjoyable from beginning to end. The "Making Of" featurette on the season six set illustrates the incredible effort that went into 22 minutes of musical comedy (why they didn't just go for an hour is beyond me.) The deleted scenes will probably be the biggest draw for Scrubs fans, but the musical episode was one of the season highlights, so we'll go with that one.

None of the special features on the DVD set are particularly offensive, so can I pick an episode? I know I'm in the minority but "My Long Goodbye," when the crew at Sacred Heart had to come to terms with the imminent passing of Laverne, a regular since season one, didn't work for me. It felt forced and maudlin, which is surprising because Scrubs has always been very deft at mixing human emotions and wacky humor. I loved Laverne as much as the next guy and every actor on Scrubs has the acting chops to pull an emotional ep like this one off, but it didn't work this time.
Scrubs has entered its seventh season with the full awareness that it will be its last. For a show that has been on the verge of cancellation for the better part of a decade, it's kind of amazing that it lasted seven years. That's longer than a lot of shows get that are considered major hits. For me, the quality never dipped significantly. Pick up season six and see for yourself.
