Let's be clear, this isn't a movie about the piece of electronic equipment sitting in your living room. Instead it’s about the trials and tribulations that TV writers and directors go through to get their shows to air and picked up for a substantial run. We follow Mike (David Duchovney) as he tries to hold together the integrity of his project called The Wexler Chronicles, while at the same time network executives, Lenny (Sigourney Weaver) and Richard (Ioan Gruffud) try to alter and ultimately ruin it. Like that doesn't happen every day in the land of network television.

We’ve always been a big fan of commentaries and with The TV Set Jake Kasden and Judd Apatow serve up a really cool track. The best part is the fact that most of what we see in the movie is based on their own experiences working in television, or of people they know who work in TV. If you want a peek at how TV really works behind the scenes, definitely check out the film. If you really want to know how crazy it can become, listen to the commentary.
For Fox not to include one single deleted scene almost feels like a waste of time. If you don’t have at least five to ten minutes worth of extra footage, you might have went wrong in the editing room.
Sure The TV Set is a decent film and does give fans a cool view of the quirky workings that is network television. For those of you looking to jump into the TV writing game, watch this movie. It may not inspire you in your career choice, and may be a little disheartening, but if you do want to work in TV, it’s a great forewarning of what you’ll be up against.
