The Lion King 3D Tops Weekend Box Office

The Lion King 3DThe Lion King 3D held the top spot at the box office for the second straight weekend after the Disney re-release earned $22.1 million to beat Brad Pitt in Moneyball.

According to Hollywood Reporter, The Lion King 3D bounced back at the weekend box office after losing top spot to Moneyball on Friday. With a total of $22.1 million in weekend ticket sales, The Lion King 3D also earned $1 million overseas for an international total of $16 million since its release last week. To date The Lion King in 3D has amassed $77.7 million in worldwide box office receipts.

Rounding out the top five at the weekend box office behind The Lion King 3D were Moneyball at $20.6 million, Dolphin Tale at $20.3 million, and the Taylor Lautner toplined action film Abduction at $11.2 million. Killer Elite, starring Jason Staham and Robert DeNiro, earned $9.5 million to take fifth place.
