Real Steel Set to Knock Out Box Office Competition

Real SteelReal Steel with Hugh Jackman is set to win the weekend box office after the DreamWorks sci-fi robot movie posted early sales on Friday between 9 and 11 million.

According to Variety, the new Hugh Jackman sci-fi film Real Steel is expected to win the weekend box office after signs of $9 to $11 million in ticket sales came in early Friday. Analysts have Real Steel set to rule the weekend box office with ticket sales in the mid $20 million range, which would make Real Steel the first new release to win the domestic box office in a month.

Real Steel will likely get another boost at the box office on Saturday from word of mouth buzz and family audiences since the film has a feel good story about a washed up boxer (Jackman) who trains the robot fighter of a young boy (Dakota Goyo).

Beyond Real Steel at the box office, the George Clooney political thriller The Ides of March is predicted to take second place after early Friday numbers peg it between $3.5 to $4 million with a projected $11 million total for the weekend. Dolphin Tale which is expected to earn $10 million for the weekend in its third week in theaters.
