Action Comics No. 1 Sets Auction Record

7 years ago by Troy Rogers

A pristine copy of Action Comics No. 1 sold for $2,161,000 through an online auction on Wednesday.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the copy of Action Comics No. 1 set a new auction record for comic books after the mint copy netted over $2 million. The auctioned No.1 edition is thought to be the same comic stolen from the home of actor Nicolas Cage in 2000 but was discovered in April 2011 by a man who bought an abandoned storage locker in southern California. Action Comics No. 1 is the first appearance by Superman.

The new record setting price of $2,161,000 broke the previous record holder of a lesser pristine version of Action Comics No. 1 that sold for $1.5 million in 2010.
