Academy Awards: Stylish Oscar Thoughts

7 years ago by Nadya Vlassoff

Tonight, the 84th Annual Academy Awards will feature the best and the brightest in film, from Hollywood legends to a fresh crop of faces. We’ve come to expect nothing but flawless Oscar fashion choices from stars like Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, and even legends like Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep.

As for the men, red carpet staples like George Clooney and Samuel L. Jackson always dress to impress, with immaculately tailored suits from only the best of designer couture.

Tonight, at the highest echelon of fashion in the film world, designers have done their best to have their names mentioned right after the ubiquitous, “Who are you wearing?” question from multiple media sources. Marchesa, Prada, Chanel, Badgley Mischka, and countless other designers will have the opportunity to see the best of their collections walk down the Academy Awards red carpet.

Here are our predictions for those we expect to be mentioned on everyone’s Best Dressed list on Monday:

Michelle Williams

Nominated for Best Actress for her role as Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn, the Dawson’s Creek alum has come a long way from angry teen to transform herself into one of Hollywood’s most influential actresses. Already recognized for her chic fashion sense on red carpets, Williams garnered praise from editors across the globe for a minimalist approach to wardrobe choices that highlight her best features.

Prediction: Her signature pixie haircut paired with a jewel toned dress. Whether floor-length ball gown or with a shorter hemline, Williams has to impress tonight for her third Oscar nom in a category where she is a strong contender.

Reese Witherspoon

Although Reese Witherspoon wore a Giorgio Armani Prive gown last year – and was classically beautiful – we expected more from her. This year, although not nominated, Witherspoon is expected to outshine her fellow actresses.

Prediction: A vintage gown that compliments her luminous complexion and petite stature.

Rooney Mara

Since she became Hollywood’s fastest rising “it” girl thanks to her lead role in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Rooney Mara has been hit and miss all red carpet season. At times Mara has been ultra-glam while other times she’s channeled Kristen Stewart’s style choices. Now as a first time nominee, Rooney Mara has to go all out and show off her fabulous figure in a classic gown.

Prediction: A dress with a full ballerina skirt with a satin top that channels the best of Christian Lacroix or Alexander McQueen.
