It appears that British actor Benedict Cumberbatch may be the next James Bond villain after Skyfall if the latest online 007 rumors prove to be true.

Benedict Cumberbatch, star of BBC’s critically acclaimed series Sherlock, is rumored to be the new villain in the upcoming James Bond film due for release in 2014.

The Daily Express of the UK reveals that the news about Benedict Cumberbatch comes an anonymous source who leaked the information to the outlet, saying that Cumberbatch is the perfect Bond villain and that a plan is already underway to have the actor on board.

“Work on the next film will begin next year and the plan is for Benedict to be on board,” the source allegedly claimed. “He grew up watching Bond, so it would be a childhood ambition fulfilled. Playing a Bond villain is one of the plum roles in film history and he’d jump at the chance.”

The outlet also reveals that the news comes at a very well-marketed time given the theatrical release of Skyfall, the latest bond film, in November.
