Actress Ming-Na Wen has reportedly joined the cast of the upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series on ABC

Actress Ming-Na Wen has joined the cast of director Joss Whedon’s upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. television series on ABC as one of the lead Marvel characters.

In the new Joss Whedon produced S.H.I.E.L.D. series, Ming-Na Wen, who played Dr. Jing-Mei “Deb” Chen on E.R., will take on the role of Agent Melinda May, as reported by Deadline.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. character of Melinda May was originally listed as Agent Althea Rice, aka The Cavalry. But May’s new character profile has her listed as an ace pilot who comes with some baggage from her former military days.

Who doesn’t love a good story of redemption?

Adding to the S.H.I.E.L.D. cast, Ming-Na Wen will join Avengers actor Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson. Unlike Agent Coulson, however, Agent Melinda May has not appeared in any of the set-up Marvel films – The Avengers and Iron-Man.

The Avengers writer and director Joss Whedon has been tapped to write and produce the new The Avengers series for Marvel TV and ABC TV Studio.

Whedon, along with his brother Jed and Maurissa Tancharoen, co-wrote the pilot script and will also direct the pilot, which is slated for air next fall season.

Beyond Ming Na and Clark Gregg, no other casting announcements surrounding the S.H.I.E.L.D. have been made.

What do you think about Ming-Na landing a role in the new S.H.I.E.L.D. series?
