The X Factor narrowed the final singers to the Top 3 during Thursday’s night elimination episode on Fox ahead of next week’s second season finale.

Carly Rose Sonenclar, Fifth Harmony, Emblem3, and Tate Stevens endured countless hours of rehearsals and make-or-break performances on the way to becoming the Top 4 acts.

However, the good news was bittersweet since judge and mentor L.A. Reid announced that he won’t be returning to The X Factor next season. The CEO of Epic Records explained his decision in a professional and thankful manner. “I have a company to run that I’ve kind of neglected,” said Reid, “and it saddens me a little bit, but only a little bit.”

So, with L.A. Reid out and the remaining singers still in the thick of competition, how did things shake down?

The first act to advance was Fifth Harmony, who made it through to the final prior to a great performance by Bridgit Mendler with her single “Ready or Not.” Although Britney Spears was shocked by Fifth Harmony’s move into the final, Simon Cowell was elated for the girls who cried tears of both disbelief and relief.

As expected, country singer Tate Stevens also advanced to the final round as one of the Top 3 acts. A front-runner all season long, Tate was more than a sure fire bet to make it through.

That left Carly Rose (who looked like she was about to faint) and Emblem3 as the final two acts up for elimination before Bruno Mars hit The X Factor stage with his latest single “Locked of Heaven.”

When the moment of truth came, Carly Rose was in and Emblem3 found themselves on the outside looking in at the Top 3. Although the boys were lauded by the judges on Wednesday for two great performances, fate worked in mysterious ways for the trio as they bid farewell to their fans. On a positive note, however, Carly Rose let the boys know that she looked forward to buying their album.

With the Top 3 now in place, the big question is whether Fifth Harmony has a legitimate shot at beating Tate Stevens and Carly Rose Sonenclar, two singers who have dominated the rankings for weeks.

Can Fifth Harmony really win The X Factor?

What do you think?
