There is no dearth of movies released each year where one can’t simply help but wonder how great the movie would have been had the people making it put in some effort or thought into the final product. The latest to join this ‘esteemed’ club is Paul Blart Mall Cop 2. Try as you may, there are no redeeming qualities in this flick and there is no reason good enough to convince yourself to sit through its 1.5-hour duration. But, given the fact that it is a sequel and is rated PG, there is a good chance that people will flock to the theatres, especially the ones who watched the original.
It was six years back when the world was first introduced to Paul Blart (Kevin James). Somehow, the first movie (Paul Blart: Mall Cop) ended up making a lot of money and now there is a sequel. In this part, Blart’s wife has walked out on him and his mom run over by a milk truck while his daughter Maya (Raini Rodriguez) is moving out too. In the midst of this family chaos, Blart heads to Las Vegas to attend a convention for security officers (Yeah, seriously).
Not surprisingly, this unfunny comedy comes from the unparalleled and inhumanly consistent Happy Madison, Adam Sandler’s company. They have a new feather in their cap after masterpieces such as ‘Grown Ups 2’ and ‘Blended’. Generally, the writers (Nick Bakay & Kevin James) and director (Andy Fickman) of all Happy Madison movies sleepwalk through their jobs. However, this time around they are unusually lazy.
As far as the box-office prospects go, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 is likely to be the one to dethrone Furious 7 (itself no masterpiece but made to look like one by this turd). If the movie ends up making enough money, you can expect a third part not too far in the future. And somehow they managed to spend $30 million on it!
