Officially, ABC is bringing back ‘American Idol’ securing an agreement for the return of America’s beloved singing competition where stars are born. “‘American Idol’ on ABC…that has a nice ring to it,” said Ben Sherwood, co-chairman, Disney Media Networks and president, Disney|ABC. “‘Idol’ is an entertainment icon, and now it will air where it belongs, in ABC’s lineup of addictive fan favorites alongside ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and ‘The Bachelor.’ America, get ready for the return of a bigger, bolder and better-than-ever ‘Idol’,” from the ABC press release.

The comeback series is a hot television trend at the moment, but it’s literally been just 2 years “American Idol’s” farewell on FOX. Has the series been gone long enough to be missed? Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment says, “‘American Idol’ is a pop-culture staple that left the air too soon,” in the press release.

With memories of “American Idol,” Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest are two names who immediately come to mind, however we know exactly what Seacrest is up to today on “Live with Kelly and Ryan.” ABC says a host and judges will be announced at a later time, and the competition series will return in the 2017-2018 season!
