This morning on the “Today Show,” Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb shared the announcement that NBC has fired Matt Lauer for sexual misconduct.
Opening the show, Guthrie said NBC News Chairman Andy Lack sent a note to the organization saying, “Dear Colleagues, On Monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer. As a result, we’ve decided to terminate his employment.”
This decision was made “after serious review.” In the nearly 20 years Lauer has been at NBC News, this is the first complaint, however Lack’s note added, “We were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident.”
Guthrie said, “As I’m sure you can imagine, we are devastated and we are still processing all of this,” she adds, “I’m sure we will be learning more details in the hours and days to come, and we promise we will share that with you.”
Hoda said, “I’ve known Matt for 15 years and I’ve loved him as a friend and as a colleague,” explaining, “It’s hard to reconcile what we are hearing with the man, who we know, who walks in this building every single day.
