The United States women’s hockey team defeated Team Canada in a shootout to win its first Olympic Gold Medal since 1998.
Monique Lamoureaux-Morando scored the game tying goal in the 3rd period, sending the game into overtime and then a shootout.
In the 6th round of the shootout, Jocelyne Lamoureaux-Davidson put the USA ahead with a ridiculously awesome goal. U.S. goalie Maddie Rooney was able to stop Meghan Agaosta’s shot and they clinched the Gold Medal!
USA had lost 3 of the previous 4 gold medal games to Canada, and hadn’t won since the women’s hockey inaugural tournament at the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano.
